Post Can I run Windows 7 Ultimate (32 or 64 bit)?

    Hello DAL representatives,

I wanting to upgrade my current Windows XP to Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a couple of questions regarding the compatibility and install if you don't mind.
    • Windows 7 upgrade component failure results:
    • Its states my graphics card (Geforce 7900GTO) doesn't support Windows Aero
    • Creative Game Port : driver is not supported
    • Broadband Advanced Control Suite 2 : Knowm issues
    • Nvidia Physx: Known issues

My hardware scan: D-A-L Computer Hardware Scan Results

What would you guys suggest I do? Should/Could I go 32-bit or 64-bit?

Can you run it? Probably yes but the limitations are pointed out in your own research.

As it is a Dell computer I would not upgrade it. Wait till your next new computer.

As to 64 or 32 there is no longer any reason not to run 64 assuming your hardware supports it.

They are now developing 128 bit and 32 will soon be archaic.

As to Ultimate over Pro there are too few options to compensate the additional price unless you are installing a company network.

About the only additions in Ultimate are Network Admin options plus mutiple languages.

    Thx for your reply Jephree,

I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit successfully. I can always upgrade to 64 bit later.

I am having a problem with two drivers. I'm missing a PCI input device and a Multimedia audio controller. I think that is my soundboard, as far as I know it a SB Creative audio LZ but thats jus off my head. don't know the correct name but I know I'm close.

You could try to reload drivers from Dell.

    They list several XPS models:

The pentium 4 processor is a 32 bit processor & you must have a 64-but processor for the 64 bit version. The 32 bit version can be run on either but not the 64 bit.

    Incorrect.

    Many P4's were/are 64 bit ready:
