No i dont really know what to change. I only did the tweak i posted because it gave exact instructions. I dont feel like playing around with stuff in the reg unless i know what it does.
The link you posted shows a Registry edit changing the string value from 400 to 20.
Is this what you did?
If so go back and try other values. 0 is the fastest. 400 is default. Try 100 or 200 etc.
Does anyone know anything about installing the drivers for a creative S.B. Live! card. On my fresh install of 7 in can't get the drivers to install. Here's what happened: I was installing the drivers while also installing updates [which might be my mistake] when the OS blue screened. I didn't record the error message but after words it booted into update configuration. While it was doing that it blue screened then restarted [again I didn't get the error]. After it restarted it again went into configuration & restarted without a blue screen. Upon reboot the OS reverted to the previous settings, rebooted, & then I was finally able to use it again.
After this whenever I try to install the sound card drivers I get a message stating that I previously installed the drivers without restarting the computer. I've tried using driver cleaner pro and driver sweeper to remove the drivers and followed these instructions remove the drivers from Vista as much as I could. I still get the same error. The page mentions in an update that creative has a removal tool but I've been unable to find it. I also have been unable to find the most recent drivers so I can only use the version I'm currently using on Vista (5.12.1.2002). Actually I finally found a link for a slightly more recent driver but the link did nothing but lead me back to the support page.
The driver available through auto updates doesn't install for an unknown error. Actually not all of the updates install; windows says that they installed but they keep showing up in auto updates. I finally got sick of all this and stopped.

Have you tried a System Restore to a point prior to the first attempt to install this driver?
How to do a System restore in Windows Vista and Windows 7
No. I considered that but I've installed other drivers, updates, & a few programs since then so I wanted to avoid doing that.
Have you tried loading that driver in Safe Mode?
Just to add:
It is best when installing updates; drivers; programs; etc. to do one at a time.
If the installer does not create a Restore Point then you should.
You should also reboot between every single install and verify the functionality of the system prior to another install.
