The visitors to my site search the necessary items on the home page by using the “ctrl+f" keyboard option.
However the less computerwise visitors have problems to use it and I would like to help by putting the search slot directly on the homepage, or by replacing the keyboard click by “search” link directly on the page.
Please advise if this is possible and if so how to do it

You can add a Google Search box to your site but have it only search your site and nothing else. The search box at the top right of this page does the same thing.
