    masked forwarding

    Hi

I have a website www.abcdesign-build.com which does quite well in local searches but really i needed to be more specific in my domain name and thought i would try a masked forwarding address of www.homeextensionsbristol.co.uk heres my quiery

does this affect my page ranking? is it possible to promote the new domain name for SEO? Is this a waste of time and maybe i should make it a "proper" website maybe just a business card type one page.

    I use serif webplusx2
    any advice would be appreciated.

Forwarding another domain will have no effect on your search engine rankings. There is no need to have keywords in a domain for it to rank well.

Ok and thanks for your response but:

will it do me any good? would a website with a link to my main site be a better option? will search engines be able to pick up on the new domain name with it having no content?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to achieve here?

If you want a new domain name for your website then you should redirect the old domain to the new one which contains the new site. For that you would do a 301 permanent redirect.

If you are trying to improve your websites rankings in Google for example then simply registering another domain and then linking it to your current domain will have zero positive impact for you.

Instead, if you are trying to increase your rankings you need to gain link partners with Websites that are of a similar topic to your own. By creating good quality content you can attract links to your site because people will want to link to good content. Other ways are recipricol linking.

OK i have a moderately successful webitse but in order to get into a niche within my sphere of business i obtained a domain with a more suitable name and masked forwarded it to my old one.

it is only for one part of my business or one service i offer.

There is no harm in having another domain pointing at your main website but Google will not index both sites so you won't actually get any new rankings for www.homeextensionsbristol.co.uk unless you 301 the main site to it and in effect tell Google the original content has now moved.

I dont want to 301 the main site because the new site would only be trying to pick up customers looking for that particular service, from your posts i am beginning to think that i would benefit more from a small website with some good content concerning Home extensions in Bristol and linking that to my main site.
