Question about re-shaping your pictures (to 'blend' in with others)

    Hi you guys,

Although I'm not sure I'm posting my question at the right place, I thought I'd just try and have a go...

Here's the thing. I'm looking for some kind of programme or application with which I can re-shape pictures so that they can 'blend' in with others. To give an example: say you have a picture of film roll (of negatives) and you would like to change the little images inside of that film roll. The film roll I'm trying to work with has a 'waving' form, so it's not as simple as to just put rectangular shapes in it and save it as one picture. I need an application or a programme that can bend the outer lines of a picture and re-shape (or 'disfigure') it.

I'd be really really grateful if one you knows about a helpful tool for this!

I haven't checked out the forum that good yet - as I'm really focused on getting something to help me right now - but if there's a possibility to send personal messages through it, or something like that, I'd encourage you all to use it (I'm not sure when I'll be back at this forum, so...)

    Many thanks!

    Astrid

Sorry I'm not trying to be rude but we can't possibly work fast enough for "right now." It took me 2 days to get a reply on a virus problem which, no offense, is arguably more important. Also it's just as fast to check the thread you created as to check a PM, besides having an answer on the thread itself is potentially informative to everyone interested whereas a PM isn't. In addition if responses aren't posted on the thread no one else will know if anyone else has helped and if so, in what way. You could get a lot of messages that say basically the same thing, for example. You could also get incorrect info that no one else would know about so it might not be corrected by someone more knowledgeable. Because of this PMs involving help are shunned.

That said, I'm not sure I quite understand what you are looking for, as I'm not an expert on photos, but I know that the image editor in Nero allows the user to change the pic in certain ways to add effects to them. I don't know in particular if it will do what you want it to but you can check it out. This sounds like it'll require software that you have to pay for but perhaps you can get a free trial [I know that you can of Nero]. I know photoshop has a lot of photo editing features to it but otherwise I don't have an answer for you. Hope this helps.

I'm sorry - I know there are a lot more important things than my question. I definately did not mean to offend anyone. I'm very glad with the help you provide, though. I'll check out Nero. I will also try to 'upload' the "film roll" picture, so that you may get a better idea of what I'm trying to accomplish.

    Many thanks again!

Hi and welcome to DAL! Pardon our more cantankerous members.

Man I love all the Grolsch!

Anyway you just need a photo editor and some practice. Editors run from freebies like GIMP up to the Pro Photoshop which runs @ $700.

I am just a novice and I did not take much time but here is a brief sketch using Photoshop Elements which is an armature version of Photoshop and runs @ $100.

What I did below was a very rough/quick attempt to Resize then Rotate after which it was a simple matter of Copy/Paste. Although one could go on and "warp" the edges the framework of the film strip basically does it for you.

You can more easily use a "perspective" tool to get the proper perspective. Anyway these programs have all sorts of tools that just need practice in their use.

GIMP can be found here: GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

Again after the software it just takes practice.

I think that I should apologize and explain my self. Like I said I wasn't trying to be rude nor was I taking offense of this but I just wanted to explain why its best that these things not be communicated through private messages, and therefore why I wouldn't, as well as explain that response time can't really be immediate & how that you might have to wait a few days for a response because it didn't seem to me that you knew that. Again I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to be cantankerous.

@ jephree: thanks, that looks pretty much like I wanted it to look :-) I'll have a go with GIMP and if I succeed, I'll post the end result, so that the circle is round

@ townsbg: you don't have to apologize. I can see your point in not sending PBs and I think other visitors to this thread will too.

I'm not sure what 'cantankerous' means (Dutch people don't use this word!), but just leave at that - there's no use in namecalling. Let's just stick to the subject ;-)
