    subdomains

I manage a website on Easyspace, and need to set up a userid/password protected subdomain.
What I want is to be able to upload the pages/data to the subdomain via ftp or frontpage, and also have a userid/password access for authorised personnel to view the contents of the subdomain. the ftp/frontpage publishing userid/password must be different to the the user's userid/password.

I'm getting no where with Easyspace.

I'm I asking for a unique requirement, or is this standard functionality.

Easyspace don't give full control to their customers I'm afraid. You don't get a decent control panel where you're able to do simple tasks that every other webspace provider gives.

This article will help you set passwords via FTP :0

I've just got a friend out of their contract with easy because it was overpriced and underachieving.

The website is currently on a Windows platform.

I have (just) been informed by Easyspace that if the account is moved to Linux the userid/password protection functionality I'm looking for will be available via htaccess.

    Will that fix the problem.

I can get round Windows based functionality - e.g. asp, shtml, asp.net, etc.

The main criteria for the website is ...
protected areas only viewable/accessible via userid/password (not the main FTP password)
PHP as HTTP forms are sent via PHP scripts to e-mail

    Thanks for your help

    Sorry,

    Another point re Easyspace.

the website was happily going along with all the functionality working until a couple of weeks ago when because the owner of the website didn't renew the lease (reminder e-mails were sent to an obsolete e-mail address) the account/website was cancelled - wiped out.
The owner had to pay for a new account which does not allow the previous functionality.

From what you've said, is there a way to get out of Easyspace.

If so, can you recommend a hosting company.

    Thanks,

Ahhh.. the dreaded windows platform. The friend I said I helped get out of his contract originally had windows so I made them move it to linux - however, in line with the rest of their crap customer service I had to ask if they'd move all the files! You'd think they would have the forethought to move it without a customer having to ask.

Seriously, if you've not long left in the contract, get out or if you're within 7 days of a new contract, use the distance selling act and your right to cancel without loss of monies paid.

Tackle the Web with $5.99 .COM's from Go Daddy!
Regarding your second message, I thoroughly recommend www.midphase.com - I've been with them for years and the support is fantastic!
