FTP Client Entering Passive Mode
Hi there
My FTP Client, AceFTP Pro, keeps Entering Passive Mode. I have no idea what this means other than that I can't do anything when it is in this mood.
Any ideas as to how I can resolve this would be most welcome

After a period of inactivity it will close the connection but it's not necessarily to do with being in passive mode... Are you saying this happens when you're in the middle of an up/download? Have you checked your setttings? Have you eliminated a problem with that client and trialled another?
If you're using firefox, give FireFTP a shot
This is a great explanation of FTP workings.

Hi there,
I've discovered that there's a setting in my FTP client (AceFTP Pro 3) for turning off PASV if my ISP doesn't support it. I've done this and it seemed to make a big improvement.
I'm still finding that it hangs though. It's as if when I ask it to upload a folder full of files and especially if it has sub folders within it with stuff in, it can't seem to handle it. It gets so far and just stops.
The trouble with this is that it stops in the middle of an upload and it can be a real pain sorting out just what it has uploaded and what is still to go.
I tried Cute FTP which my ISP recommends and I had similar trouble with that if I asked it to upload too much at one time.
I've decided to just upload in small quantities for now until I find out what's going on.

What kind of net connection speed do you have? Who are your hosts? Have you asked them if everythings ok their end?

I wondered about this - I might ask them
I get a good speed about 4.1mbits
My ISP is plus.net

But your upload speed might be quite low with that package... you'll need to ask

Hi there
I've sent a ticket to my ISP and await their response

Cool! Ask them what your upload speed is though. The FAQ on tha site gives over-exagerated speeds.
