    Hey,

There are a number of forum software packages around which are pretty simple to setup, here are probably the two most popular packages in the Free and Paid sector.

    phpBB - Free to use - http://www.phpbb.com

    vBulletin - Paid software - http://www.vbulletin.com

Whilst phpBB is great for a new forum and has some great features, vBulletin is in my opinion easier to use, maintain and nicer to use.

EEEK! Steer clear of phpbb - it's absolutely useless with spammers at the moment. I can thoroughly recommend SMF forums - they're great.

The drawback about VB is, as you say, it's chargeable.

What we don't know is what kind of hosting our customer has here. Do you have a control panel to manage your webspace? Are you able to add MySQL databases? Do you have Fantasico? There are usually the choice of forums to install automatically from within Cpanel - makes it so easy I know my Cpanel has phpBB and SMF!

You can also try Simple & Free PHP Forum Script About PHP Forum Script

It's not as popular as other ones, which has less appeal to hackers.
