    Starting with CSS

I am looking to put this design together with CSS:

I have recently downloaded a trial version of Style Master. Has anyone else used Style Master and got an opinion of it? Doing the tutorial was fairly easy but after that you are really on your own.

Having never used CSS to do web sites it is a bit daunting to need to be able to put together sophisticated pages from the word go. (I just lost a freelance job worth £500 because I have no CSS experience).

I have looked at a lot of CSS sites including the Zen Garden. I understand all the things to do with text but when it comes to positioning different elements on a page it starts to lose me.

Any help to push me in the right direction would be gratefully received.

I have been told I should forget it all and use a Content Management System but I feel this is the wrong move a then I would never learn anything new about creating web sites.

I'm in a similar place regarding CSS. Ive been getting by with standard html for long enough and though CSS Zen Garden sites are very pretty I'm not usre I see what all the fuss is about with CSS. The reason they're pretty is because a lot of graphics have been created for the site.

Still that's probably because I havent really got my head round it.

I think the best way to learn stuff is to look at the source code for other sites and pick them apart.

Positioning seems to be one of the most sophistciated aspects of CSS - being able to place things precisely on the screen is something which cannot be done using plain old html but requires a new way to think about layout.

Your website looks very good btw
