ok im thinking of making a website for my dad, and il admint now i know absolutly nothing!

the site i want to make i really only want about 2 pages with text, no mailing lists etc, and probably not too much of a fancy domain. i dont really want them crappy teenage free web things where they all look the same, id like somthing like the dall forum with a colour scheme of light blues etc,

now the kinda things im thinking about is things like how much space will i need if i only want 2 pages( is it just like normal space for example on your harddrive where a song is like 3mb?) ,
how easy is it to do?
what are the kind of prices for lets say a year?

i saw a perticular site selling on ebay with 500mb space, and a 2gb broadband , and .co.uk domain for £25 . . whats with the broadband space? is this a fairly good price?


if theres anything iv missed and i shoud know please say!

First of all 'broadband space' means absolutely f*ck all. Second for something of that size you won't need 500Mb of space (more like 5 - but I don't know of anywhere that does webspace that small). Personally i like demon internet - very reliable and they've been around since the dinosaurs - definately not a cowboy outfit.

As for designing the website you could look at the thousands of HTML tutorials out there on the internet - everyone has their own preference so just look around and find one you like and is suited to your capabilities. Or you could 'cheat' and design the site in frontpage or even Word can publish websites for you (for such a small project I doubt you want to invest in Dreamweaver or Flash).

To upload the site to your webspace you'll need an FTP program (it stands for File Transfer Protocol) There are thousands of free programs on the net - try Cute FTP - very good, very free.

chears archorste your help was very helpful, knew i wudnt need 500mb, and to be honest i probs wont need 5mb! thanks for the offer patriot, il probs take you up on that thanks all for helping , il tell you how i go on, il probably use flash to make it as frontpage is a bit too basic!!! i wont be starting just yet, as my dad isnt ready, il probably start around xmas time and should be ready shortly after tgat.

o and btw about the newbie thing,i am a newbie at web help, defo not familiar with it. as for another other pc work im ok hence why iv got a 4/5 rating!!!
