Can anyone recommend a good free Data recovery program?

With the understanding that NO data recovery program can guarantee total success, especially if the drive has been used, even in the slightest, after a file or files have been deleted, I have had good success with Recuva, from the makers of CCleaner. If the drive has been used, then there is a good chance newly saved data was stored in those freed locations and data recovery will not be possible. Your only option then will be to use data recovery services and those are very expensive (often into the $1000) because of the sophisticated "forensic" equipment needed, and specialized training required. And even then, recovery is "iffy".
