Very High temperature on my 9400GT

Hi guys .i am a bit new here so dont exactly know if i should paste this question here or some where else and i apologize if i am wrong ...........

ok . now to the point

    1. i am currently playing dragon age origins .....the game would run properly for 15 or so minutes then it would lag like like hell

2.then i found out that nvidia had an inbuilt heat controller of some sort which would decrease
    preformance to reduce temperature

    3. so i downloaded GPU-Z and i found out that that when the game was running my GPU temperature maxed at 110-120 and even when it was idle it would remain near the 75-80 mark

    4. so i opened up my cpu case and got revatuner and increased my GPU fan speed to 90% even then it would drop just 5-6 degrees

So i wanted to know if
1.can my gpu handle such kind of temperature without damaging itself ????
2.if no what more steps can i take to reduce my GPU temperature ????????(other than buying a new heat sink fan )

See if the following link reflects similar circumstances as per your setup:

Can I put my GPU in a different PCI-E slot? - Yahoo! Answers

I just realized that my motherboard's fan is blowing right on my graphics card which is probably the cause of it overheating and freezing my computer

in my case my motherboards fan does not blow air to my GPU and one more thing which amazes me that only my GPU becomes hot while the rest of my components remain fairly cool
. this is the layout of my cpu with the Gpu in the bottom
i fear that i will melt my gpu out
    HELP..................
