Hi everybody,
I have a HP Computer with Windows XP OS. Computer is unable to recognize any CD inserted into the E drive. Once, the CD is inserted, it keeps showing a message "Please insert a disk into E drive", even though it is already inserted.
Is it possibly the dust, so that I will only have to use a CD cleaner? Or, could the E driver (hardware) be kaput?
Thanks,
James

Yes. It could be dust, the driver (software) or the drive itself (hardware). Is it possibly the dust, so that I will only have to use a CD cleaner? Or, could the E driver (hardware) be kaput?
When did this problem start?
Dust is often drawn in to optical drives by the case fans so if dirty, cleaning the system of dust may help.
Have you made any recent hardware changes? Did you recently change media players?
Are there any errors listed in Device Manager? Can you "Eject" a disk via Windows?
You can try getting a lens cleaner kit such as this one. Also if this is a desktop, if it where to come to it, cd and dvd drives are relatively inexpensive through newegg.
Hello Friends,
First of all I would like to thanks you all for giving me your valuable views regarding the matter.
Thanks,
James
