For the folks who can't afford a New Computer. Or afford to buy a New operating system. That doesn't want to run Linux. Does Not want to pirate or break the law and steal Windows. But wants a Windows type of Operating system that is Free.
This Operating system called ReactOS has been in the works for a couple of years now. It is in the Aplha stage at present. It will run on low spec hardware. It is free to download and use.
I am just posting this as a option for those that would never run Linux. But can't afford to buy Windows 7 or their equipment is to old to run Windows 7 and they wish a Windows Like operating system that is compatible with .exe type of downloads and installs. I have no affliation with these folks. I won't even run this as I am more comfortable using Linux than a Windows type operating system.
You can download the iso and burn it to cd using a free ware Windows software burner like The Official ImgBurn Website
If you wish to check md5sum of download for download file integrity. A good one for Windows is WinMD5Sum Nullriver Software : Products : WinMD5Sum
This operating system uses a registry. Just like in Windows.
It is free. Depending on the computer operator. You can make the skins and windows as fancy as you want I guess. It will run as a Live CD as I have done this myself to see what it was like. Live CD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Below is where you can find it

I know some members may be put off because this is still in alpha stage.
But some beggars can't be choosy.
Also the more people that run this and test this and give feed back to reactos will help to polish this operating system up even more.
I am just posting this for knowledge and for those folks that might be un aware that this project even exists. Happy Trails, Rok
P.S. I am posting this while running Mepis 8.5 rc2 running as a live cd which is a Linux Distro. So I am online. Not running off my hardrive. Just posting while online running a live cd. Maybe this way you will get my meaning on what a live cd is like.
Perhaps you should include that since it is in the alpha stage of development it is a long way from being finished & could be unstable. If you want to know more read Software release life cycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. I would only advise that people undergo this if and only if they understand the risks and that it could be highly unstable.
