    Unhappy Comodo Internet Security

I have until today been using Comodo Internet Security (CIS)
I like the program which as worked just fine apart from startup when it use 90% of CPU for a minute or so.
Today I started my PC and it just hung with the desktop part loaded.
On checking in Task Manager I noted cmdagent.exe (part of CIS)was hogging 99% of cpu.

I went to Comodos Help Forum to see if I could find out why?
The forum was alive with CIS members reporting the same problem.
7 full pages of complaints when I arrived.
So I decided to uninstall CIS and installed alternatives.

1 hour later my grandson rang to say he could not start his PC.
I told him to remove CIS and PC now OK. Again like me he's installed alternatives.

I just wondered if anyone else experienced the same problem
Or any information about the problem

Been monitoring Comodo forum to see what advice would be offered for this problem

This is the advice from Comodo forum administrator if anyone has this problem.

Wow, thanks Jim. I use Comodo on several systems and have had no problems. I wonder how many were really affected. I don't think many actually, but it certainly did upset those it did affect.

This is one of the reasons I avoid "Suites". I run Avast and Comodo firewall ~only~.

Yeah, too many single points of failures with suites. Unfortunately, hardly anything comes as a stand-alone program any more as most come bundled with something.

This is the first suite I've ever used. But because I used and liked Comodo Firewall
    I thought I'd give CIS a try.
I already had a little annoyance with cmdangent, exe.before this problem occurred.
When my PC first started it would take about 5 mins to become usable, because
cmdagent.exe hogged between 70% - 90% of cpu. So I was already irked with CIS
Because of the problem with cmdagent.exe I installed Outpost firewall and Avast.
With this arrangement the PC became usable almost immediatley.
So whilst It was a problem (if ctrl/alt/del was'nt pressed as soon as the desktop started you could'nt get into task manager to see ther cpu hog)
at first for me to work out what was causing the cpu hog problem.
Changing to Outpost/Avast made me realise how poor my load times were.
But the problem with suites is, when one fails, all your security fails.
Whilst security its self wasn't an issue this time.
I call it a failure when it renders the PC unusable.

And what make decisions all the more difficult is the guy next door may be perfectly happy with his choice of security, and the computer's performance. That inconsistency is not necessarily the fault of the product or the PC as every Windows computer becomes unique within a few seconds of first power up, and the user starts to customize and load up with favorite applications. On this XPP system, I switched to Comodo Firewall when I got tired of the fluff in ZoneAlarm Pro. But Comodo Firewall is now bundled with Comodo Anti-virus too. You can disable it, but it is still there. I was using AVG Free, but then they started to bundle their AS with their AV, and that bogged my system down. I decided to dump AVG and enabled Comodo AV, and I use SUPERAntispyware to complete my suite. There will be times when everything slows to a crawl because one of those programs are doing something - but fortunately, performance returns to normal in just a few seconds.

I keep my systems running 24/7 and schedule updates and scans to occur late at night. This keeps the daytime interruptions to a minimum. Still I am concerned with the single point of failure issues that I bring up at the bottom of my sticky, Practicing Safe Computing, in the section, Comment: Security Suites.

I agree with all you say in your last post Digerati
I would also like to add that I'm not knocking Comodo. I'm full of admiration for all the people who
work on our behalf to supply all the free security applications that make surfing the net the pleasure
it is and Comodo have been pretty quick in posting a remedy for the problem.
Without Comodo and all the others in the security sector the Net would be pretty well unusable to the average PC user.
I would also like to thank all the people like yourself who spend many hours putting together the
sticky's like Practising Safe Computing to help us. Not just in this area but all areas of the PC.
The PC is a complicated beast and what suites one doesn't always suite another.
It tries to please everyone. Its versatility is its greatest asset and also you could say its greatest failure.

There's no harm in knocking - when due.

I would also like to thank all the people like yourself who spend many hours ... to help us.
We certainly appreciate that but I must be honest, we mostly do it because it makes us feel good to help others, and because we learn new things too, as there is always more to learn.

I try in my own limited way to help others struggling with a PC problem.
Either by giving advice that I know will help or trying to point them in the direction
    of others that can.
I know the good feeling you get when the advice you have given helps

or trying to point them in the direction
Most of the time, that's what it's all about. I know a lot about computing, but certainly not all. What I do know usually gives me a reference point or base line to start from. That, in turn, gives me insight as to what keywords I need to punch into Google so I can find what I need to know, or verify what I think I know.
