What if they're (MS) ordered to revoke all the Product Keys?? ;>) Yikes!
They couldn't revoke the licenses, but MS could get stuck with a hefty fine. But I suspect MS will give them a bunch of money, force them to sign an NDA, and we will hear nothing of it. This is not the first time a company tried to stop MS for copyrights and I suspect not the last.
I don't pay for MS Office! Open Office is the way to go!
A lot of people want to cash in on their success. However if XML is an open language, like wikipedia said, then how can they be liable for copyright infringement?
1. They can't make users of un-patched versions install the patch.
2. The court ruling applies to current/future sales not previous sales.
3. It probably isn't feasible to change the code for the retail versions of 2007 so they will just keep them like they are. So I bet a patch won't be good enough since they can't make it mandatory.
4. It is not feasible for them to take word off of the market.
My bet is they'll write a big check and make it go away which is probably why the company sued them in the first place. I wonder if this will effect Office 2010. It shouldn't if they are able to pay them off.
