Cool HP Printer keeps shutting down

I have a HP PSC 1200 printer/scanner/copier, and am running WIN XP.

All was good until recently, when I noticed my computer was slow. I checked and the task manager was running at 100% CPU usage. The process using all the memory was "system". I also noticed that my HP printer no longer worked.

Whenever I shut down it says that "hpohmr08.exe" has created an error and I have to manually shut it down. I have tried reinstalling the HP drivers and searching for new drivers but I can;t seem to get it sorted.

Every time I restart the problem goes away for about 30 mins, then returns.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hey,

May be worth running a HijackThis scan to check if you have some Spyware slowing you down and causing problems. Best to clarify that first, Check our the stickys in the top of this secuirty forum (i've moved your message there for now) you will see how to download HijackThis and post a log then somone can check it out for you.

Certainly could be a spyware infection, it gets in the way of all applications and often is not compatible with other programs.

    Owen,

Thanks for your reply. It only seems to happen with the printer. No other programs that I can tell are affected.

Any ideas or things I should try ??

    Scott
