Hello all, hope I find you all well, unlike me who even though got to have some days off work to sit in front of computer but couldn't enjoy it due to being riddled with bronchitis(!) anyway.

For a while now I have used Zone Alarm and it always asks me about once every ten minutes if mstask.exe and SERVICES.EXE can have internet access, at first I thought this had something to do with Windows Auto updates and let them through but only recently realised that they are both server programs (that means permanent connections doesn't it?) this struck me as odd because windows update would only need to check if there are any new updates to download. I don't check the 'remember my answer next time' box because of when I go on xbox live I like to know I have the maximum possible bandwidth. I use Adaware, Spybot and AVG scans often and always comes up clean. I've searched for similar problems on Google and have found some people with identicle problems but no real answers.

What is SERVICES.EXE?

What are they sending?

It's driving me loopy thinking some hijacker is thieving all my bandwidth!

I run ZAPro on winME and neither of those have access.

On inspection of your log, you have the blaster worm.

Also install the patch advised.


Then.....Please do an online virus scan and have them delete what is found:

Then......Download Spybot from

after installing......hit.."Search for Updates".....get them all.......(Download Updates)........then "Check for Problems".......after the scan is complete..allow Spybot to remove everything listed in RED....


Then download Ad-Aware at http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/
After installing AAW, and before running the program, update by using the Globe icon.
Shut down and restart Ad-Aware.

Configure Ad-Aware 6 for your first scan
Ad-Aware 6 comes pre-configured with default options that are already ON (green checkmark) ... do not change them. The following are changes that you will need to make to prepare the "Full" custom scan that is recommended for the first look into your computer (instead of a red "x", you will make them a green "checkmark"):
Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen to access the preferences/setting window.
Click the "Scanning" button.
Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives".
Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.
Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the "Advanced" button.
Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
Click the "Tweaks" button.
Under "Scanning Engine", select the following:
"Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile" and
"Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.

When you are finished, you will be using the Custom Scan with Memory and Both registry scans ON. Please make sure that you activate IN-DEPTH scanning before you proceed.


Finally......Please put HJT in it's own permanent folder

Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder.
Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it. Then post your new log.

Yes you can block those. If you have trouble with anything afterwards you can re allow access but the only thing it should do is stop automatic windows updates, you'll have to do them manually. Will get back to you on the scan.

Check the boxes next to all these items. Then close all windows except
HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to 'Fix checked'.
