    Smile About:Blank Simple Working Solution!

    Hello all,

I have been going CRAZY the past few months trying to
solve this About:Blank pest...I have tried everything but
to no avail...It keeps coming back and back just like the
pesky Energizer Bunny...So I kept saying to myself, could it be that this pest is smarter than me? No way, I said...
If I can't fight it, why don't I just join it!

    1. I use Lavasoft Ad-Aware 6.0 Build 6.181 to identify the
offending loader(s). After a scan, if your system is infected,
just go down the list and WRITE DOWN the names of all
the files identified as malware. At this point, you can go
ahead and allow Ad-Aware to delete them.

I am using Windows 98, so as an example, the 2 files in my
    c:\windows\system\ directory are:
    lbcdccb.dll and gccgd.dll
These are the culprits you must deal with...
Reboot your system in Windows Safe Mode...

    2. In my windows/system directory, there is an adaptec ASPI for Win32 driver called WnASPI32.dll
Right Click it, Do a Copy, and Paste twice to create 2
    copy of that driver:
    Copy of WNASPI32.DLL
    Copy (2) of WNASPI32.DLL

Now Rename the 1st Copy of WNASPI32.DLL as lbcdccb.dll
and the 2nd Copy of Copy of WNASPI32.DLL as gccgd.dll
I am not sure why but I also decided to Right Click on those newly created files and set their attributes to "Read Only" and "Hidden"

    3. Reboot your system again (Normal Mode) and this time
you should no longer be bothered by them...You can verify that your system is cleaned by running Ad-Aware again

    Good Luck...

I'm afraid its not that simple. The solution will only work on 98, its a lot more difficult on Windows 2000 and XP and requires a more advanced removal method. The name of the DLL file is always changing as well and you have too be careful and make sure you don't delete system files.

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
It is not that hard to identify a spyware file...take a good look at its name...for example, gccgd.dll and try to pronounce it...to be sure, do a Google Search, and look at the results...nothing...thus, it is "not" a valid system file...

Be smart: If you are not sure, go to Safe Mode, and instead of manually deleting a file, simply renaming it
(such as _gccgd.dll) or archive it (create a .rar or a zip file) and then deleting the .dll. Be extremely careful when using HijackThis...You should have no problem with Ad-Aware...I going to try today with XP, but I don't expect much difficulties with the simple method above...

Spywares are like viruses...you will never be able to get rid of them all...Just have to deal with them one at a time...
But it sure beats having to run HijackThis or CWShredder
every half hour...By the way, Spy Sweeper is a good tool to have, it will alert you EVERYTIME about:blank is trying to change your home page...
