    Thinkpoint...Ugh

So my computer has the thinkpoint virus. I have already taken it to a computer place to try to have them fix it. They told me it had to be totally restored. To have them do it, it would have cost me over $300. I would rather try to do it myself. But I don't really know what I'm doing! I don't mind having to restore it because I just want to know that it will be gone! I would still like to back up pictures and files though. I have an external hard drive but I'm not even sure if my computer will recognize it. And this might not be a good option because the virus could go on the external hard drive as well right? Saving stuff on CDs is more of an annoying process but I guess I'll do it if I have to. Would this be an ok option? Can the virus get on the CDs? I was told not to even connect the computer to the internet while restoring it. I couldn't even open an internet browser before, but now I can. Would it be ok to upload files online somewhere with the virus still on the computer?

After I get my files backed up, how do I restore my computer? I have the original software CD's and everything from Dell. And if you need to know, I have Windows Vista. Please help!

Ok. So I believe I do have up to date anti virus software, McAfee, but don't think I have web protection. Probably why I got the virus... Should I add it? Just making sure it will be ok to go on the internet with that computer to do so. And to post the logs.

I'm not sure, what you mean by "web protection".
If you have up to date McAfee, you're OK.

I don't know. Its separate from the base AV software I think. Have to pay more to have it. I know before I got this virus, McAfee kept telling me to add it. Should I be in safe mode? Not really sure if I'll even be able to access programs.

    Forget about it.
Run all indicated scans and post logs.
I'll clearly see what you have there.
    No, no safe mode.

Ok. Kind of weird..my computer is running like I don't even have the virus. But I did the temp file cleaner. Now when I try to run Malwarebytes' it gives me this error. "Run-time error '5003': Unexpected error"
