Slow loading resume
Before I can completely clean up my computer, its loading had slowdown like before. Please help.
Thanks.
-
Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")
Print these instructions out.
NOTE. If any of the programs listed below refuse to run, try renaming executive file to something else; for instance, rename hijackthis.exe to scanner.exe
***VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure, you update Malwarebytes before running the scans.***
STEP 1. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes to your desktop.
(Malwarebytes is free to use as a manual scanner. Payment is only required if you wish to have it run and update automatically which is not necessary for our purposes)
* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.
The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
RESTART COMPUTER!
STEP 2. Download GMER: GMER - Rootkit Detector and Remover, by clicking on Download EXE button.
Alternative downloads:
- |MG| GMER 1.0.15.15281 Download
- http://www.softpedia.com/get/Interne...ers/GMER.shtml
Double click on downloaded .exe file, select Rootkit tab and click the Scan button.
Do NOT use the computer while GMER is running!
When scan is completed, click Save button, and save the results as gmer.log
Warning ! Please, do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.
Post the log to your next reply.
IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.
RESTART COMPUTER
STEP 3. Download HijackThis:
HijackThis - Trend Micro USA
by clicking on Installer under Version 2.0.4
Install, and run it.
Post HijackThis log.
NOTE. If you're using Vista, or 7, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator
Do NOT attempt to "fix" anything!
DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

Hi Broni,
Here are my computer information: Processor = Intel Pentium (R) 4 CPU 1.90 GHz
1.89GHz, 248MB of RAM
C drive = 19.5 GB , free space = 4.49 GB
-
This is surely an issue. If this is XP, you'd like to have at least 512MB of RAM.
-

Your computer seems to be malware free.
As I said before, your main problem is low amount of RAM.
You need to install more RAM.
Meanwhile, we can try couple of things, but upgrading RAM is a must.
Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.
I also suggest, you uninstall Spybot, which slow most computer down, especially those with low amount of RAM.
I recommend, you unistall Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is a resource hog, and install FoxIt Reader: Download Foxit Reader 3.3.0.0430 - FileHippo.com, which is much smaller, and faster. It does very same thing.
Make sure, you run "custom" install, and opt out from installing any extra toolbars.
Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.
1. Open HijackThis.
2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.
3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
4. You should also checkmark following entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):

Hi Broni,
I do not have the chance to add more RAM yet. So, meanwhile I did what you recommended and my computer now loads a lot faster.
Thank you very much for your help.
