Verify your Java version here: Verify Java Version
    Update, if necessary.
Uninstall all previous Java versions, through Add\Remove (Programs & Features in Vista).

    ================================================== ===========

Disable Windows Defender, as it'll interfere with cleaning process:
    - Open Windows Defender by clicking the Start, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Defender.
    - Click Tools
    then...

    ++ Windows XP:
    - Click General Settings
    - Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
    - Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection
    - After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
    - Close Windows Defender

    ++ Windows Vista:
    - Click Options
    - Under Administrator options, clear the Use Windows Defender check box, and then click Save.

Enable Windows Defender, when all cleaning is done.

    ================================================== ==========

Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

    1. Open HijackThis.

    2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

    3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries:

    - O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

    4. You should also checkmark following entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):

    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] C:\Windows\system32\igfxtray.exe
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Persistence] C:\Windows\system32\igfxpers.exe
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PLFSetI] C:\Windows\PLFSetI.exe
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SSBkgdUpdate] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Scansoft Shared\SSBkgdUpdate\SSBkgdupdate.exe" -Embedding -boot
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PPort11reminder] "C:\Program Files\ScanSoft\PaperPort\Ereg\Ereg.exe" -r "C:\ProgramData\ScanSoft\PaperPort\11\Config\E reg\ Ereg.ini"
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"
    - O20 - Winlogon Notify: !SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.dll

    5. Click on Fix checked button.

    6. Restart computer.

    7. Post new HijackThis log.

    Hi Brody,

I went to the longer of the two 'check java version' links you sent first.
It said , Oops, you dont have the latest version.

So, I DL'd the latest version. I then installed it. The dilalouge box reported a succssessful installation.

I then went to the programs/feature folder in control panel.

The new java(the one i had just installed) was not displaying, but version 6 update 18 was displaying.
It showed that is was installed on 11/9/09.

I restarted the compter, hoping that would incorporate the new Java into the system.

After the restart, I opened programs/features, The newly installed Java was not present.

I then searched the C:\...rs\Ro........Dorr\Pictures\downloads file. It was not there either.

I then tested the Java version again using both links you provided. Both confirmed the same thing.

The Java version that is running is called:
    ***1.6.0_18 from Sunmicrosystems***

I then uninstalled the Java which was reporting as being version 6 update 18 in the prgams/features folder.
As the uninstall progressed, the header of the dilalouge box showed it was uninstalling version 6 update 16.
    I uninstalled the program.

Next, I attempted to reverify that I still had the current java using the longer of the two links you send.
    Answer, No.

I then looked in the C:\Program files area for the newly installed Java, but it was not there. I did find a Java
folder still there from the uninstalled version, which I was not expecting to find, as the programs/features folder
indicated that there was no longer any Java program.

The folder showed the same date as the uninstalled program when I moused over it, and showed folders: java.
I manually moved it to the recycle bin.

When I moused over it in the recycle bin, the information was different.
The date and time created were the same, but after 'folders:' It showed $RJ4H287, instead of Java

i thought i remembered from viewing a previous McAfee log(or somewhere), that this could be a virus.
So, I placed it back in its previous location from the the recycle bin to the program files area.

in the process of placing it back, a dialouge box popped up asking for administrator permission. in this dialouge box, the date created showed as 11/2/2006 7:18PM

Once it was there, I moused over it, and the folder name had changed back to Java.
I deleted the folder a second time.
In the recycle bin, the folder name now read: $RYV4FAY.

For some reason, this type of file named looks familiar, so i went into mcAfee. Where I thought I might have
remembered seeing them. but did not find them.

But, I did find the name of the virus I "think" I origianlly got, if it is helpful. It is called: Generic.dx!iq
The reason i think this is the one, is because it is associated with the keygen file I downloaded that contained
the original trojan. Also, that same virus was detected during a scheduled scan by my McAfee(that I did not schedule)
on Feb 1st, at 1:30_41-42. It hit mcAfee 7 times in 1.3 seconds. The last entry on Mcafee shows the status of the
    virus as quarentined.

    ================================================== =======

Ok, good, I have got the Java now, showing todays date and time of install attempt.

Don't know what the fix was this time. i opened my firewall, which I had not on the first try.
But, after completeing the first try, a dialouge box appeared that said installation was sucsessful.

This attempt, i noticed a small checkbox for changing folder location, but it would not give the option of using
the desktop. So, I went and got a DVD+R, and installed it on my E: drive.

But now, as soon as I complete that, another power failure has just hit us. No more internet to test the install,
or run your programs until it is back on.

ok Brodi, 7 hours later, and we have power again.

After installing java on the DVD, i went to look for any more traces of it on the computer.

I deleted both of my Java install folders from my downloads file.

The only other trace i can see is at C:\programs\common files\Java
It is 1.17mgbs in size and says it is an update.

    ================================================== =======

Ok Brodi, great! The java test site said I do not have the correct Java without the disk.

But, with the disk, it says I have 6_18.

Going on to the rest of your procedures now.

    thank you, rob

    Hello Brodi,

I think you did some damage with that last procedure
My speakers had been crackling for several days during restarts,
But this time, they sounded normal.

Maybe you got them on the run, if only your wizardry could fix our power grid)

I forgot to turn the windows defender back on before the restart, so i have two logs for you.

The one after the restart(defender disabled), and one after enabling defender, then restarting again.

They are pasted in that order.

    Here they are:

Hi Broni, please forgive me for misspelling your names through these posts. Looking back at them, I can see that i even misspelled some of the misspellings.

Java 1.6.0_18 is the correct, latest version.

    Your computer is clean

    1. Turn off System Restore:

    - Windows XP:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the System Restore tab.
    4. Check "Turn off System Restore".
    5. Click Apply.
    6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
    7. Click OK.
    - Windows Vista:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
    3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
    4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
    5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
    6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on (in most cases, drive "C:")
    7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
    8. Click OK

    2. Restart computer.

    3. Turn System Restore on.

    4. Make sure, Windows Updates are current.

    5. If any Trojan was listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

    6. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): Safe Browsing Tool | WOT Web of Trust. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.

    7. Run defrag at your convenience.

    8. Read How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!: How did I get infected?

    9. Please, let me know, how is your computer doing.

    Hi Broni,
Another power outage at 12:34 this morning.

Just saw your latest mail. It was located in my spam folder, where as all previous mails
    have landed in my inbox.

I think i followed your procedures correctly.

    Turned off system restore

    Restarted computer.

    Enable system restore

Updated Windows with these eight updates:
    KB978251, KB975560, KB974145, KB905866, KB977165, KB978262, KB890830,
    and KB971468.

The information area on KB890830 said it would run upon restart, and generate a report.

    But, nothing happened.

Should I uninstall KB890830, and try again?

also, google chrome still displays oddly.

I have not been back to my websites to check if they are still
    www.searchinvent = www.mysitename.com for fear of re-infecting myself.

    what did i do wrong?

    Thanks, rob

    Hi Broni,

    more info.

Since shortly after becoming infected, my computer had asked me if i would like to make firefox my default browser, even though it already had been.
Now, it does not ask. it seems to be performing as before.

My Microsoft Office folder still shows as empty from the start menu.
But, when accessed through C: drive directory it lists:
    Document themes 12
    Media
    Office themes 12
    Templates

    all have subfolders

when i try to access my website (scubaduba-ph.com) using IE8 I am still getting this Mcafee site advisor warning:

    www.ztomy.com/?dn=www.scubaduba-ph.c
om may cause a breach of browser security.

    Thank you, rob

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Unfortunately, as for http://www_searchinvented_com/?dn=www.scubaduba-ph.com I made the link not clickable), WOT's rating is also in red: searchinvented.com | WOT Reputation Scorecard | WOT Web of Trust
    Is this your own website?

As for Office, I suggest, you reinstall it.

As for Windows updates, go Start>Control Panel Windows update and see, what's the status.

Any other issues at the moment?
