Antivirus Live
Can someone please help me get rid of some kind of virus that has placed an icon in my tray that's called "Antivirus Live"? Every couple minutes a message comes up from the icon saying Windows has detected that my computer is infected and to click on the icon to scan my computer. I click it off and it comes right back. I tried to open my Adaware and my AVG things but they won't open. A window pops up and says that particular file is infected. I can't seem to do anything. Help, please. Thank you.

Thank you so much for helping me. I am trying to do what you said to do but am having trouble. I downloaded the superantispyware okay but couldn't get the updates. I went to the site like you said to do but then I didn't know how to do it manually from there. When I tried it gave me 3 choices, something about "repair", or download to my hard drive. I didn't know which to choose. Also, yesterday I tried until I was blue in the face to restart my computer in Safe Mode and it wouldn't work. I used to do it on my old one, I forgot what version I had, I now have Windows XP. I do the F8 key and then when I highlight Safe Mode option and click on enter it goes to another page and "Start Windows normally" is highlighted. Sorry I'm not too computer savvy and seem to get hung up on what should be simple things to do. Thanks for your help on what to do now.
-
OK. Leave safe mode alone for now, along with Superantispyware.
And don't worry about all those issues. Most likely, it's just the infection, which is doing it.
See, if you can run other scans, starting with Malwarebytes.
If not, let me know.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
- Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
- Close any open browsers.
- Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
- Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
- Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE 1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
- Close any open browsers.
- WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
- Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
- If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
- Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
- When finished, it will produce a report for you.
- Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**
Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.
DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!
