I have a Toshiba Satellite, operating Windows XP. I have acquired a virus admonishing that my system is infected and I should purchase their software to protect my computer, which I have thus far declined to do. It has taken over all .exe files, blocked the "Run" function, and will not allow entry into task manager. Is there any way to get past such a virus to clean it out, e.g., insert a virus/adware program on disc, or will the virus probably block any such attempt? I'm considering throwing the computer away, but hate to do something that rash -- if there is a reasonable chance of removing the virus. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you saying, you can't run ANY program?
