My dad has managed to get a piece of software on his PC called total security by clicking on a pop up. Am i correct in thinking this is a fake piece of "anti virus" software which tells you you have virus's when you don't?

If yes whats the best way to remove it?

(hes only had the PC 3 days and today is the first time he has used it yet has already got himself into problems!)
