yup computer is running smoother let me do some of the other things you suggested..then i will reboot and try java again...right now it keeps asking if it is windows compatability or something..
-
-
Java refuses to download. It gets all the way to to the installation part and a message pops up saying verify package exists and I can access it(yes I am administrator on this computer)and it says to contact vendor to verify valid windows installation....I will keep trying some more during the day.
-
OK, how is your machine running now?
-
it seems to be running smoother, but I can't download videos and watch them smoothly, but I think it is because I am on dial up...I will keep working with Java and see if I can get it to download..I appreciate all of your help, if you have any suggestions feel free to email me at nonstick48@hotmail.com or through this venue...
-
Let me see the silent runners log please.
Also have a look here if you haven't already:

Neal, You know what I don't think I did that yet, the silent running thing. I get off from work in about 2 hours and should be home by six. That will be my first project after I let my dog out. You are sooo patient :notworthy: ...I tried all weekend off and on trying to download the java. I had went onto the control panel and uninstalled it, but I can go into my computer in the c drive and locate the 1.4 program and I tried to update from there...nope...would not go. If nothing happens will spend the evening working on it again.
-
that took some work, but here it is

Can you get it to your desktop? if so disconnect from the internet and disable anti-virus and firewall and try the install. Then re-enable security programs and connect back to the internet.
-

leave it to me to have these kinds of issues. I didn't get an opportunity to work on it last night. I had company. I will keep working on it. I did email Java for help and I am sending you the information for future reference if you run across someone with this problem again. I guess this is just going to take time and patience.
Thank you very much for your interest in Java(TM) technology. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The solutions provided below are related to common JRE installation related issues. Please try the same. If it fails, do not hesitate to write back to us with more details including the system environment and steps to reproduce the issue.
1) Network connectivity: Sometimes network connectivity at your/ISP end, can prevent the complete download. Please ensure that your ISP is configured properly and working fine before trying a fresh JRE download attempt.
2) Network congestion: At times due to high JRE downloads traffic, we face some network congestion issues. We are aware of this problem and our network administrators are actively working towards a solution. We apologize again for any inconvenience this may have caused you. In this case, please try again after some time.
3) Anti-virus/Firewall Configuration: It is recommended to disable any anti-virus/firewall installed during the JRE download/install process.
Note: Ensure that Java applet/applications are not blocked in your Firewall settings.
4) Configuring Internet Connection/Proxy settings: Ensure that you have your Internet connection settings in the browser(s) configured properly. If you are accessing through a proxy server, ensure that the server is accessible and configured properly to open web sites through internet. For details, look at:
http://java.com/en/download/help/proxy_server.xml
5) Download Accelerator(s): It is recommended that you do not use any download accelerator utility in order to speedify the download process. For details, please see:
http://java.com/en/download/help/dow...ccelerator.xml
6) Offline download/install: Offline download/install option is the most recommended, especially in case online download/install attempt fails. You can find the relevant download and instructions at:
http://java.com/en/download/help/download_options.xml
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have a corrupt JRE download/install, then follow these instructions:
1) Remove any exisiting traces of Java software on your system follow instructions from:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/uninstall_java.xml
http://java.com/en/download/help/5000010800.xml
If you still are not able to uninstall completely (if you see Java Plug-in icon in the Start -> Settings -> Control Panel), please download/install and run this registry cleaner utility from Microsoft from:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301
Restart the system.
2) How to download/install Java Runtime Environment properly:
http://java.com/en/download/help/download_options.xml
http://jdl.sun.com/webapps/download/...BundleId=10549
Note: Offline download option is highly recommended
