SystemSecurity and others, HJT log included

Hello D-A-L, it's been a while but this one really has me confused. My sister has recently had this laptop taken over by Spyware, Trojans, etc. including things such as StopSign (I believe is spyware) and SystemSecurity, and I'm sure there are others as well. This laptop currently uses Windows Vista, and I got so fed up with trying to fix it that I was going to format the harddrive since there is really nothing important on here, but I only have an XP CD, and when I tried formatting it was telling me there was no Hard Disk installed on the computer, not sure if that was caused by the malware or a Vista/XP issue.

With the SystemSecurity, I think I removed some of the registry keys it had, but I'm not sure. It currently doesn't pop up, but I still cannot use any programs which was one of the symptoms with it. I am posting in Safe Mode with Networking as that is the only way to access any programs and the internet. I tried running Norton Antivirus and Spybot but nothing was successful. Here is a HijackThis log, and hopefully you all can give me some advice.

    Welcome,

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
    1. Run Spybot-S&D
    2. Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
    3. On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
    4. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

    * Open Windows Defender
    * Click Tools
    * Click General Settings
    * Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
    * Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
    * After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
    * Close Windows Defender

Once your system has been deemed free from malware, you can re-enable Windows Defender's Real Time Protection.

It looks like you are running Mcafee and Norton at the same time and is not a good idea as conflicts will occur and other troubles, so please uninstall one of them, uninstallers below for your use:

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

    * Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

    * Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and zLaunch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
    * The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
    * The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    * Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

    Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

Hello Neal, thanks for the assistance.

I was still working on this after my previous message and did some things I did not try before, such as running CWShredder, which found cws.msconfig and I removed that. I uninstalled Mcafee before the previous scan as well, so I do not know why it still showed up in the scan, but I also just uninstalled Norton as well as per the last post since it was only a trial version. I did everything that you said in your last post, but I would just like to mention that after the restart that MalwareBytes requested me to do, it said Windows was not able to start up properly and had to do a repair. Here are my MalwareBytes and HJT logs.

If you do not have an antivirus program you should not be on the internet without one, so here is a free and really good one:

Download FREE antivirus software - avast! Home Edition

From add/remove program look and see if these are there and uninstall please:

    Viewpoint Manager etc.
    eAcceleration Product Manager etc.
    StopSign Update Manager etc.

    REBOOT

Run hijackthis and click on "scan system only" button and put checks next to these:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

    O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe (file missing)

Please close ALL browser windows (including this one).

Everything closed out but hijackthis and click on "fix checked"

Now reboot into safe mode by tapping your F8 key upon restart and safe mode screen appears, select safe mode and press enter.

Navigate to these files or folders using Windows Explorer (OR Start -> Search) and delete (if present):

    DELETE FOLDERS

    C:\Program Files\McAfee
    C:\Program Files\eAcceleration
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

Then reboot back to normal mode and post a new hijackthis log and tell me what is going on now please.

Ok. I just want to first say that after the first post I was finally able to install Ad-Aware, and when using that to scan it found about 20 or so infections that it removed. I followed the steps as listed above. None of the three folders were found, and I also did not have any of the three installed as well. I removed everything from HJT. I also tried to install avast!, but after the restart it told me to do I was just left with a black screen, I could not see anything except for the mouse cursor, so I had to boot back into safe mode and uninstall it.

Here is my new HJT log:

Visit this page below to familiarize yourself to the tool below and download from one of the links provided.

A guide and tutorial on using ComboFix

If you have previously downloaded ComboFix,please delete that version now.

It is IMPORTANT that it is saved directly to your desktop

    Close any open browsers.

    Disconnect from the Internet.

Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.

Disable your antivirus program and any realtime malware scanners and script blockers now

    How To Disable

Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the entire contents of C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running.

That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Do NOT post the ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt unless I ask.

Re-enable your anti-virus and re-connect back to the internet and post the combofix log.

    *Note*
In case your Antivirus or any other realtime scanner is displaying an alert after you downloaded Combofix or while you use Combofix, please disable your scanner and redownload Combofix again.
Some scanners may see some combofix related components as suspicious and block or delete them while there's nothing wrong with them.

ComboFix SHOULD NOT be used unless requested by a forum helper.

Not sure why hijackthis is showing it but try this it may be hidden:

How to see hidden files in Windows Vista

Re-hide when you are done looking, if you can't still find it I wouldn't worry about it, probably something in hijackthis causeing it to still show.
