hjt log

Re: hjt log
I'd say it was a 2005 model. Someone gave it to me a couple years ago.
At pcmemorystore.com, I can get a 512MB card for $22. I have 2 slots with 1 empty (256mb in the other). So I'll just add the 512mb, for a total of 768mb. Sweet.
I don't think they have to be the same size.
Really slow loading again after checking the memory slots.
2 other programs installed a week or 2 ago where Ad-aware and Spyware blaster. Maybe these new updated programs are using more memory too. I see that avast is doing a scan at boot-up too. Think I saw somewhere that Ad-Aware was running, even though I didn't initiate it.

Balloon comes up from the red shield icon by the clock

1. Make sure, you get correct RAM type. Your best bet is to go to Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com, enter your computer brand, and model, and it'll tell you, or....check the manual, if you have it.
2. For now, I'd limit number of running programs. I'd uninstall Ad-aware, which is rather tool of the past, and it gives you 1 extra service running, even, if you're nor using Ad-aware.

I looked at crucial, and has same specs... 200 pin SO DIMM PC2700.
I already tried to un-install Ad-aware2008...and saw a definite improvement in start-up time. I went to their forums, and there was a concern with high cpu usage, and/or problems running the program.
I'll see how it starts tomorrow..getting late t'nite.
RAM is ordered...the extra should help too. Thanks

RAM will be the best improvement. Trust me

Much faster start-up after un-installing Ad-aware. About a minute now to load, whereas before it was taking closer to 5 minutes. The balloon above the task tray didn't come up again telling me my firewall was off. I think the last Ad-aware update started that.
Right now it's running pretty good, although I already ordered an extra 512mb memory module for the empty slot. I'll keep a fire extinguisher handy with all this extra RAM...lol.
Thanks again

Very good news, indeed

Just a follow-up...You were right Broni..
I added the 512MB Ram module, and the computer's running much beter..Thanks
