Desktop pc freezes - sudden slowing on IE7

Our desktop (usually v. reliable) had a problem yesterday with being unable to open IE. We were linked to the internet because we could pick up e mails, but could just not open IE. So I think the problem/virus is within that. We rebooted this morning and have been able to open IE except POPUPs previously blocked automatically came up. I reset the setting for pop ups in Internet options to "high", but on any site that we wanted to enter, the pop up blocking bar came up and if we temporarily allowed top ups we just got secondary windows opening for spyware etc. Tried to run McAfee to check for Virus's and that freezes. Then try and check task manager and that also freezes. Have rebooted 100's of times and am able to start IE, but if I go manually to a site rather than via Google, it will freeze after a couple of minutes. Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Download HijackThis:
    TrendSecure | Download TrendMicro HijackThis
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
    Install, and run it.
    Post HijackTHis log.

NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

Thank you - I will try, but given the freezing it is hard to get onto IE, search and download before it ceases up. Watch this space..

The log appears to be clean.

    Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same thing?

Hi Went back to computer to try and it had frozen again, this time it was not connected to the internet via a browser - it was just in the Hijack program which was already on the PC. I have just restarted and the "Start" menu and bottom task bar is just blue. I will try and reboot and try your suggestion.

Hi - no change - popups started after about 5 mins of viewing various sites. Then screen locked and select or click on anything
