Its OK. I am not without and I am sure your up to your hard drive in things to do, I am just greatful for the help and it afords me a forced learning curve so I will be able to help myself in the future.
    Thanks again

    HOUSEKEEPING:

Uninstall the following older JAVA versions in Add/Remove Programs:

    Java(TM) 6 Update 4
    Java(TM) 6 Update 7

Wouldn’t hurt to run a full MBAM scan to rule out any complicating issues from any possible malware still present? Could also get a 2nd opinion from an online antivirus tool, as well.

    SYSTEM ASSESSMENT:

This is a system I had built long ago
So you have a relatively slow single core 1GHz CPU (3GHz dual core CPUs and quad core CPUs now more prevalent). My son's 3-year-old laptop is a 1.66GHz single core CPU and is also quite slow to load all startup programs plus can’t do very much in the 1st minute or so (e.g.: sluggish browser in that time frame).

Since you have owned your PC, you have probably seen Internet Explorer go from v5 to v7. So the memory requirements for such applications have been gradually rising over time. And, accordingly there is increasingly more to load from disk (such as ‘browser helper objects’ – SEE: [IE]>Tools>Manage Add-ons>Enable or Disable add-ons), which can ever gradually and increasingly slow down a PC at startup. I see 3 Hard Drives (HDD) and 3 CDROM/DVD devices. These devices probably didn’t all exist in the beginning. So an aging PC is now doing more than it was initially designed to do given the less demanding nature of the software that existed at the time. You may want to test your HDD performance HD Tune and potentially retire one of your lesser performing drives.

REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS: My current build 3GHz dual core CPU Desktop PC reads the SATA HDDs at an average of 81-87 MB/sec (16-32 MB buffers) and loads my user profile in under 10 seconds. In contrast, my wife’s 3-year-old laptop (2GHz dual core CPU with dedicated video card and PC2-5300: DDR2 667MHz memory [333 x 2]) averages 42MB/sec (8 MB buffer) and now takes over 2 minutes to load a ‘quiet/settled down’ user profile. Both have 2GB of RAM memory and use 7,200 RPM SATA drives.

and as far as I know there was only one vid card installed
The HW SCAN (recently developed new tool at D-A-L) may have reflected the existence of a dual port video card. A dedicated video is preferable to onboard video or your memory is going to suffer a significant hit to support that device.

The Cpu Peak ['PEAK MEMORY' = 793M] never went up any higher
commit charge was 561M/2461M at the start and raised to 590M/2461M at times
What is the actual RAM memory in use before loading any actual working application programs (‘Task Manager’ at rest)?

So there is no apparent lack of memory. But, the memory may now be considered relatively slow at 266MHz or 333MHz (versus DDR2 800MHz [400 x 2] or 1066MHz [533 x 2] now more commonly found). For useful memory diagnostic info and available RAM performance options, try:
Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com (available slots & maximum supported memory spec possible)
CPUID (actual & available possible options - ‘Memory’ & ‘SPD’ TABs)
List of device bandwidths - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (available theoretical throughput in GBs – chipset dependent)

Furthermore, some of that 200M additional peak memory may be swapping out to relatively slower drives.

Good News: MBAM quick scan seems to run reasonably well in acceptable time (similar to my wife’s laptop results).

    POTENTIAL IMPROVEMENT STEPS?:

By attempting to speed up a slowing but aging PC, things might actually get worse or mostly not improve very much without a serious rethink of what can be reasonably expected from that system:
    • The HW SCAN seems to indicate a recent operating system install date (‘Install Date: 03/09/2008’) possibly indicating a recent new re-install or attempt to do a repair install. In the first instance, some of your drivers might be currently out-of-date and less than optimal (SEE: Don't get burned by driver-update scams ). In the second case, the improvement objective for the repair install may not have been realized. Could try running the following at the system command line:
Start>Run>cmd __|__ COPY & PASTE: SFC /scannow (you MAY need your XP install CD in order to successfully initiate that scan).

    • Common tips to make your PC run faster cannot overcome major performance issues related to system age, system spec limitations (CPU, RAM, etc.), and configured resources in use: TechBite by Steve Bass: Newsletter #2.

    • Furthermore, most attempts to get a performance boost by using a registry cleaner often yield mostly inconsequential improvements:
TechBite by Steve Bass: Newsletter #6

    • Different choices of tools could make a substantial improvement especially in the case of anti-virus tools – it can be a top 3 CPU start up bottleneck (and memory user) along side wireless networking startup initialization (wired networking is much faster, instead) and running services. Do you run a daily AV scan at startup?:

RUNNING SERVICES: Windows XP x86 (32-bit) Service Pack 3 Service Configurations by Black Viper

    • You might be able to achieve better performance if you are willing to run less on that aging PC by disabling selected running processes in MSCONFIG (not recommended as a permanent measure but to more so test the impact of certain running processes). If you need this step extensively, you likely really need a better PC:
