    Browser Hijack - Redirects

Hello everyone. I am currently struggling with a virus that will redirect me from links in google. And randomly at certain sites. It also manages to turn my firewall every few minutes. And the only other thing I have noticed is that it won't let me update AVG. I have run ad-aware and AVG with no luck. If you could help me not have to reformat that would be great. Also I would just system restore... but this is a farely new computer with vista installed. And it has automatic restore points turn off...which I was not aware of. Thanks a bunch in advance.

    Dave

    * Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • Run the scan in SAFEMODE (tapping the F8 key on bootup), if necessary.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from HERE and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
    • Once the program has loaded, select "Full Scan", then click Scan.
    • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Make sure that everything is checked , and click Remove Selected.
    • When disinfection is completed , a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart(See Extra Note).
    • A run log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs TAB in MBAM.
    • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
    • Please post any current revised observations.

    Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

If you still have remaining issues RE: 85.255.112.229,85.255.112.140 redirect entries,

[VISTA] Check your connection settings to see if they have been and remain changed:
    • Open Network Connections by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, clicking Network and Sharing Center, and then clicking Manage network connections.
    • Right-click the connection, and then click Properties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (for both versions – v6 and v4) and ensure that in both cases the radio button is checked that says Obtain DNS servers automatically and remove any other DNS entries present.
    • Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

Well thank you for your response. I was able to download malware, but it will not run. It just hesitates for a second and then does nothing. I tried to go into safe mode and run it from there. and windows actually crashed. (first blue screen with this computer.) You were right about the DNS though. Any other suggestions?

Actually, hold on the other suggestions. I have an XP partition and I got malewarebytes on it. So i'll post the results after it's done.

Well Malwarebytes did find 2 infections, but some problems definitely still exist. I didn't try using the browser with fear that it would replicate. But it did still turn off my firewall and won't allow me to run malwarebytes on the vista partition. It may be useful to know that the infections it found were actually on the XP partition yet there are no problems there, only with the vista side.

Thanks again for your help, this is an excellent service you provide.

    REBOOT.

It may be necessary to give MBAM a new name (rename it) to allow it to run , e.g.:

    needed_scan.exe

Also check to see that the DNS entries have not been altered again.

Ok well, I deleted those fixed those files, and restarted. Then renamed malwarebytes and ran it. Which found 5 infections when run on the vista partition. But it seems as though the virus is still intact. It hasn't tried to change the DNS again, but on startup it turns off my firewall, and the browser still re-directs... But on the plus side it doesn't seem to be spreading or getting worse, so I think we are close. Here is the latest malwarebytes report and hijack this log:
