    Connecting problems

    Hi there...

I've been experiencing connecting problems with my system lately, to the point where, this morning, I couldn't get access either to any of the sites I usually go to, my e-mails, etc. and couldn't open up either Yahoo or MSN. All I get it what I call the little spinning circle next to the pointer for about 30 seconds or so, and then the mention 'Explorer cannor show the webpage' or words to that effect. I have called my ISP, who told me the signal was fine and suggested that I delete the Temporary Internet Files, which, to my amazement, seemed to do the trick! I say to my amazement because I usually do clean-up of the system quite frequently (about once a week). Which got me to thinking that this could very well be a temporary fix, and that the problem could re-appear in a few days.

Would you be so kind as to check the HijackThis log below and tell me if there might not be something more sinister lurking and, in the affirmative, if anything could be done about it at my end (other than taking it to the technician! ). You have been a great help in the past to this still very much technologically challenged fan -- please keep that in mind in whatever instructions you might come up with ).

Thank you VERY much, as usual

Other then the below it looks good.

Run hijackthis and click on "scan system only" button and put checks next to these:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

Please close ALL browser windows (including this one).

Everything closed out but hijackthis and click on "fix checked"

    Reboot your PC.

    Update Java: Security Issue

    * Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
    * Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )

It should have next icon next to it:
    Select it and click Remove.
    * The current version can be downloaded from Sun here: Java SE Downloads - Sun Developer Network (SDN) Scroll down the page to 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u12(or higher) and press the 'Download' button. On the new web page, click the 'Accept License Agreement' button. Then select 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' in the Windows Platform area just below the Accept button.

All done, Neal. Thank you for your usual prompt response. I'm still noticing a little lag, but nothing major. I WILL keep you posted if the situation deteriorates. I haven't experienced any computer freezing since I first posted this morning. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thank you and your expert colleagues for the fine work you do. It IS very much appreciated by all of us.
