I had installed the firewall that came with XP & I undid it because I could hardly move around at all. took forever to load, etc. Will this other firewall interfere with movement or was that just the XP version that was bad?

The XP Firewall isn't much use. There are a few firewalls that really slow down your internet speed like Zone Alarm and Norton Personal Firewall. Sygate hardly slows you down at all. When you download Sygate, please ensure that you Block Microsoft Generic Host for Win32 services accessing the internet (Open the main interface, right click Microsoft Generic Host for Win32 services at the bottom and click Block).

A firewall is very important, but useless firewalls that slow down your connection speed just annoy people and make them think the same about all firewalls.

Nope....it didn't work. I was hijacked while d/l the sygate friewall. Same site, same everything.

Sorry about the long time for a reply, I've been busy over the last few days. Could you please post a new hijack this log and we'll have another shot.

Hi, Owen. No problem. I think the hijacking has stopped. I haven't been online much the last few days, so I need to give it some more time, but between your help and the help of another site, I do believe we got it. I was going to give it a day to be sure & then post something to let you know.

The offending party appeared to be NavExcel and only showed up when I went to Pest Patrol & ran their scan. I also had Lycos running a hijack program too. I made a comparison & couldn't find either on my Hijack This log at all, but then I'm not very sure how to read the log. They both were in Program Files though. Anyway, since I could usually count on getting hijacked when I d/l stuff, I've made a cpl trial runs & didn't get hijacked. So far so good.

The programs you recommended are fabulous and I've passed on your recommendations to my friends. I really appreciate your help. This is a fantastic forum and you have been a temendous help. GREAT JOB!!!
