Hello,

Have been experiencing a progressively slower and slower machine, especially when running firefox. I have run spybot and Avira full scans, and have attempted to remove some programs running in the background, but would like assistance on which others to remove, as well as if my computer is infected and I can't get to it.

To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

CCleaner

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.
It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Uncheck cookies

Before first use:
Select Options then Advanced.
UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

Click on CCleaner to start it. Then click "Run Cleaner", just use the windows tab up front by default.


Then Reboot (Exit)

What is happening now?

I've run CCleaner, freed up tons of space, uninstalled those programs and others over the past few days. Seems to speed up the machine temporarily, but after 2 or 3 startups running firefox alone maxes out my CPU. I'm thinking a clean start may be my only option now, so I will probably do that this afternoon. Was just wondering if you could suggest a good, free antivirus program that will use as little of my laptop's resources as possible while running in the background...that would help me out a lot.
