Vista Crashing after virus cleaned

Vista Crashing after virus cleaned
Hi Everyone,
I'm a first time user at this forum and I need some help wtih my Vista System. I
have purchased my machine 1.5 years ago and its been running fine. Its a Toshiba A200-AH3 series model, pentium dual core.
However, just over the last few days of the new year, my system has been
experiencing a lot of issues. I believe this all started when I first plugged my uncle's USB drive into my machine when he wanted to show me a ppt file/card that he created. After plugging his USB in and starting to run his ppt, Symantec on my computer popped up a message saying there is a virus on his USB and it cleaned the infected file. The worm that was detected was W32.Arpiframe but according to Norton and the information I could gather on it, it seems to affect systems outside of Vista. After that clearance, I thought my machine was ok but it was not. There is a record of this virus on symantec as a backup item. I was also using their wireless network to connect to the net to upload a submission.
So any time I have been surfing online while connected to the internet, the machine seems to hang a lot. What I mean is that the system doesn't move, the mouse is locked there on screen(however, in some cases, the mouse could move as well on screeen) and after a minute or two things resume normally. I know that this sometimes happens naturally but here the whole system stops and then continues and happens quite a lot and mainly when I'm actually online.
There has also been the occurance of a light blue screen (not the dark blue vista crash screen) that comes up instead of my desktop or whatever I was working on. (This was occuring before the hanging of the system) That light blue screen covers the whole screen and doesn't go away after a while and the machine is frozen in that state, so eventually I have to turn off the power and turn it back on to get the comptuer going again. upon loading into vista, no error messages are detected. This has also occured with grey screens as well instead of light blue. Also, this occurs mainly when I'm online. When I have been offline (i.e, not connected to the internet at all), this doesn't seem to happen often. Most recently about an hour or two ago, I had the occurance of a blue vista crash
screen (happened twice preivously too) and this time i was able to catch the message: "Kernel_Data_INPAGE_Error".
All these errors mainly come while I am online as I was able to burn DVDs for 2 hours to backup my files.
So with all these issues I spent the day running a full virus scan with the most updated LiveUpdate versions of Symantec and its come up empty. I have tried to system restore to a point before my uncle's insertion of the USB thinking the virus might have caused registry changes before it was caught, but no luck there either as I am still getting these issues. I have also run scandisk and fixed any disc errors there were on my C drive. I have looked at event viewer and within the last 24 hours, there have been over 1300 errors on my machine. A number of them are from atapi,Servicing (with two different event ID), Service Control manager Eventlog provider, Distributed COM, and SharedAccess_NAT. THere have also been a lot of warnings mainly from ApplicationExperienceInfrastructure, Symantec and servicing.
I am really needing a lot of help to get my system back to normal again and any help would be appreciated. I will be checking often and am willing to post any information about my system to help as I am returning to lectures on monday and need this laptop up and running in order to deliver them.
Thank you for your time
Lawson
UPDATE: Also, Its still going on, but now even though there is no wire in the machne and wireless is off, it says its connected to the following IP address: 142.150.41.224

Welcome and sorry for the bad news on your PC.
That IP seems to come from Toronto Canada.
See if you can do this below, you may have to burn to disk etc. and bring to your infected PC.
Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
* Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
* This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
* Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
* Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
* Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
* Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
* When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
* If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
* After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
* Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
* Close Dr.Web Cureit.
* Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
* After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.
Please download and install the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2:Delete the old version you have
CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:TrendSecure | Download TrendMicro HijackThis
1. Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
2. Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
3. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
4. Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
5. Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
6. Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
7. Click on "Edit -> Select All" then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
8. Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply.
9. Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Hi Neal,
Let me update you on what has happened. So far, I ran a full system virus scan using Symantec and no virus was detected. I took the advice of tech support at the hospital i work in and reformatted my machine. This did not help the situation during one of the reformatting attempts, boot sector errors were detected as I called Toshiba to ask about the error code. However, I tried reformatting again and it worked. However it still had the same blue screen errors. We replaced the hard drive and I took it to tech support again and they reformatted it again and it seems to work fine after using re-burned versions of my Toshiba Vista recovery discs. There was some lag in runing processes but overall it was ok. However, upon coming home and installing symantec endpoint, the system did lag during the process -i.e, ran but stopped for a minute (hard drive disc light off) and then ran again. After installing endpoint connectingto the internet to update it, the machine crashed again while online. Before that it did raise an alter about a MSsystem or someone with an IP address beginning wtih 76. trying to access my machine and it blocking that threat. This has stopped now, but after that the machine hit a gold screen (likely since its symantec that was running) and I had to restart it. It prompted me to do a start up repair but that didn't work and when rebooting, it didn't load. However, afterwards - rebooting again got me onto vista. and I decided to do the hijack scan since the machine is formatted and memory was checked by my colleague at the tech support in my hospital. Pasted below are the two logs for hijack: (one for being offline and the other for being online - there was an error with the online case about not being allowed to write on the hosts file):

Hi Neal,
Thanks for more updates. I have performed the first step with the hijack this and inthe process of performing the second step.
My tech guy at the hospital stated taht it was likely a motherboard issue and a dead end for machine, but I begged to differ since this machine is only 1.5 years old and asked for a second opinion from the tech support at University of Toronto where I am currently working. In the meantime while waiting for your response, what he told me to do was run Toshiba PC diagnostics and detected no errors with any of my hardware (hence it was unlikely a mother board error on its own). However, I did detect there was an upgrade for the driver for the BIOS and I updated it and it seemed to run a lot better. There was no hang again until I got home - so I am a bit suspicious at what is going on at home. Yesterday, after downloading some additional updates using Vista (thinking my system was ok), I decided to install them thinking that upgrading the BIOS driver was the key to getting my system going again and that was because it didn't seem to hang while i was installing that on campus. HOwever, during the installation process, the machine was installating some drivers for an intel product or something and the sceren changed from its typical resolution of 1200 X 800 to a much lower resolution. I thouguht that it was just because its installating a driver for something related to the video card or the monitor (since I recall checking one of those off during the Windows updates). However, the screen decided to turn black and i was still thinking it was just part of the installation process and then it hit a screen that looked like this. (Thank god I had my digital camera ready - especially handy in Universtiy courses when your prof doesn't post lecture notes).
Right away i was like what the heck - if that didn't say virus or hijacker to me, then I don't know what the problem is. Durign that time the hard drive was still being read (i.e LED light still blinking - instead of how it was frozen before) and it was still on the internet ( activity signal on my modem was still running). Please zoom in as there was some weird repeating characters on it and some faces or something in the centre underneath the flash. There was also a blinking cursor on top.
After that incidence, the freezing started happening again and taht's where I'm at today and the machien sometimes struggles again in load windows because of the frozen LED hard drive light being on.
So far after the fix from hijack this, it seems to run smoothly again, but I'm unsure for how long. Also, I do not see the 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u7 ' link in the page you sent me to. Do you mean JRE 6u11?
Also one of the other symptoms about the flat color screen crash has been that the network card is frozen and defective just before the crash as I see the network indicator on the start menu go before the 1 color screen comes up. I'm thinking it might just be the BIOS - but i'm not 100% sure since its so systemic on the machine (i.e, incldues C drive, monitor going out and the network card). I believe a number of others might be getting this similar types of issue as well as I googled my model - Toshiba Satellite A200-AH3 or AH308C online.
Please let me know what to do next or how to continue to resolve this.
Thanks a lot,
Lawson
Update: after hijack fix, it still crashes like that.

Yes I meant 11 not 7, sorry about that.
I would run the tool below if you can.

* Close Dr.Web Cureit.
* Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
* After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.
And...
* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE
Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and zLaunch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.
