    Plenty of Problems (HiJack This Log)

    So I was searching for a way to fix a couple of problems on our computer and found this site and HiJack This. Here are the problems:

    1) svchost.exe and wuauclt.exe frequently take up to between 60k and 100k of RAM.
    2) msconfig opens then disappears, but taskmanager stays open.
    3) Mozilla Firefox disappears when searching for ways to fix these bugs (I tried clicking an article that said "HiJack This log" as the thread title, and Mozilla crashed)
    4) HiJack This opens, and disappears.

    So following these problems, I booted in Safe Mode and was able to get into MSConfig and lower the amount of Startup programs. I also was able to run HiJack This, and get a log file. This Safe Mode log is listed below. I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me figure out how to fix these (I think some of the problems above are caused by Trojans)

    New Issue before showing the HiJack This log: When getting to the folder that had the file, explorer reset... like the blue bar disappeared and reappeared without the folder I had been attempting to get to. I went back and renamed the folder and the logfile and was able to get to the file. I think the bug(s) target things with HiJack This in the filename.

    Update:

    I fixed one of the problems, might have fixed all of them, but here's what happened. I discovered before posting that one problem was a trojan in the services registry entry. I finally managed to download a trojan remover and get rid of it, so now I can use HiJack This. The following is the log file in regular boot mode:

    Yes indeed you did have a rather nasty trojan but we really need to look deeper by running the tool below just in case:

    Download SDFIX and save it to your Desktop.

    Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
    • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
    • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the script.
    • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
    • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

    Couple of changes:
    1) Today, my dad switched virus programs. AVG had just expired a week ago, and had given us one more month of virus protection to re-license. He found a different program called The Shield Deluxe which was cheaper, but had better reviews. So that's the change in the Hijack This log.
    2) When I realized there were that many sites in the trusted sites area, I went and fixed that. There are three sites there now, and I've turned off the "titles from external links" option. Also, those restrictions are supposed to be there, apparently.

    The computer seems to be working fine, with the only problem being that it's slightly slow on startup, due to the way the new virus protection program seems to be getting updates and constantly checking for malware.

    If you can find this folder below in bold and tell me what is in it:

    C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\jvahwgr In the system32 folder

    SDFix deleted 4 more trojans.

    Run hijackthis and click on "scan system only" button and put checks next to these:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

    Please close ALL browser windows (including this one).

    Everything closed out but hijackthis and click on "fix checked"

    Reboot your PC, thanks.

    Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the jvahwgr folder in system32. If you think this might be a problem, please let me know.

    I've finished doing the rest of the steps you've given me. Thanks for your help!

    Try this:

    Go here to learn how to show hidden files/folders:

    Help Centre Home : www.telecom.co.nz/help

    Re-hide after we are done

    I see. I automatically show hidden files and folders, but didn't realize that some folders were protected even more than that. There are two files in jvahwgr:

    1) services (a configuration file)
    2) services.exe.vir

    Do I need to delete one or both of these, or were you just checking to make sure that's all that was in this folder?

    Edit: I opened the configuration file, and it is one gigantic line. I wasn't sure how important this was but the text is below:
    YWN0LmFjdGl2YXRlZA== MQ==
    dXB0aW1lLmxhc3Q= MzA4
    dXB0aW1lLmN1cnJlbnQ= NDI3Mg==
    dXB0aW1lLmJlc3Q= MTc4NzczMA==
    Y29uZmlnLlBhdGNoZWRUQ1BJUA== MQ==

    Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
    ok that tells me it needs to go and the tool below should get it.

    Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
    ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

    * Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
    * This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
    * Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
    * Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
    * Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
    * Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
    * When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:

    * If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:

    This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
    * After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
    * Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
    * Close Dr.Web Cureit.
    * Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
    * After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.
