I had posted this problem on the PC Games forum (24/11) but have now concluded that it is not a games issue.

On onstalling a DVD based games application I received the following message 'D:|not a valid Win32 application'. By making use of another PC (Windows ME) and swapping DVD drives around I have eliminated the drive as the problem. I can also load the game from the 2nd computer using the application DVD provided whichever DVD drive I use (unit from first m/c plus unit from 2nd m/c).
I therefore believe that the problem is resident in m\c 1 (origanal system). running under Windows XP SP3.
DVD driver current; AVG scan clean apart from two tracker cookies; Spybot detected two items now deleted. Antivirus uninstalled also Spybot. Issue remains.
I am posting Hyjack This hoping that someone can offer advice.
Fall back plan is to use back up drive to install a clean XP and use this as the c:\ drive and see if I can eradicate the problem.

There isn't any malware showing in your log but we will do a scan or two and see if something shows up.



* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and zLaunch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Neal, thanks for your response .. I appreciate it. Also apologies for spelling errors in my original post... fingers were not in tune with my brain, probably an age thing (or wine).
I'll try harder in this post.
I did as you requested and ran malware scan and hijack this ...both appended.
Since original post I have removed CounterSpy V2 which was reluctant to go when I removed all cleansing tools in an attempt to ensure no conflicting programs were affecting the issue posted. I have changed my AV to Vipre primarily because my Firewall is also by Sunbelt. Apologies if this confuses the issue.

Update Java: Security Issue

* Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
* Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )

It should have next icon next to it:
Select it and click Remove.
* The current version can be downloaded from Sun here: http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp Scroll down the page to 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u10 and press the 'Download' button. On the new web page, click the 'Accept License Agreement' button. Then select 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' in the Windows Platform area just below the Accept button.
