Hi guys,

I use Outlook Express for my email. Over the last few days I've had a few problems with it.

First, I could not delete some emails that had large-ish attachments, like video clips.

Second, when I sent an email I would get a generic warning message while sending with no description. Then the email would in fact be sent, but it was not deleted from the outbox.

I use AVG which scans every day. I ran Adaware which froze (even a new download/installation). I ran Spybot and cleaned out some browser problems. I then ran "error checking/check now" on drive Cfrom properties, tools). This found a lot of bad clusters that it repaired. At this point the outlook express seemed to operate properly, I ran Adaware (which found nothing) and went back to using outlook express. Soon I got the sending problem back again for an email with a large-ish video attachment. I ran error checking/check now again and found a bunch of bad clusters again.

Are my friends sending me some kind of virus? Or do I have hardware problems? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I downloaded Hijack This, ran a scan and attached the log.

* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and zLaunch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

* Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
* Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )

It should have next icon next to it:
Select it and click Remove.
* The current version can be downloaded from Sun here: Java SE Downloads Scroll down the page to 'Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u7 and press the 'Download' button. On the new web page, click the 'Accept License Agreement' button. Then select 'Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language' in the Windows Platform area just below the Accept button.

Do an online scan (scan only tool) with Kaspersky WebScanner

You should clean out your deleted items folder(box) as it appears something in there is infected(outlook express).


To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

CCleaner

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.
It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Uncheck cookies

Before first use:
Select Options then Advanced.
UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

Click on CCleaner to start it. Then click "Run Cleaner", just use the windows tab up front by default.


Then Reboot (Exit)

I ran the CCLEANER and then another online Kasperski scan. The K scan came up with nothing.

The Outlook Express seems to operate OK now. I'm not having any trouble.
