IE freezes and closes Highjack this log included

I had probs few month back, but last month, whenever I start IE , it runs for 10-30 sec then freezes and have to shut it down. I am using firefox now. If I use AOL software to open IE within AOL, it works ok !

Last week,I had a major prob, it would not even let me upgrade AVG free version. And it never finishes trend micro online scan !!!

    Plz Help if you can.

    First of all Thanks.

I forgot to mention earlier, that few month back, suddenly I was unable to watch online streaming on some site. So youtube was ok, but online live streaming news was not. I used to click and that error code got me no where, on the (windows media player) WMP site resulted in this error has not been resolved yet or something like that.

Now, after installing hijackthis, suddenly IE is working fine and live streaming is back to normal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did the scans, took about 4hr +, and I have a HD of 120GB, so anyone planing to scan be prepared.

While scanning , I had an alret from AVG for a trojan BHO.FUM I think, and I moved it to vault.

Ah, I had installed a demo game, a western game and the demo was the official one. This is the only thing I remember... I had removed it after a couple of weeks.

Please do not use 'wordwrap'. It makes the reading of any listing very difficult.

Now, after installing hijackthis, suddenly IE is working fine and live streaming is back to normal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That should not be unless you specifically fixed something (ill-advised). Otherwise, it is is simply a DIAGNOSTIC scan, only.

I did the scans, took about 4hr +, and I have a HD of 120GB, so anyone planing to scan be prepared.
Such a result is not normal unless active malware was still very much causing this. Might want to check your disk with HD Tune. What is your 'maximum', 'average', and 'burst rate' transfer rate (BENCHMARK TAB). Check for any color highlighted issues in the 'info' and 'Health' TABS.

SELECT HijackThis FIX ITEMS: Scan with HijackThis and place a check next to these items:
(try SAFE MODE (F8), if necessary)

Thanks again. Unfortunatelly I have reached a bad stage, my laptop just keeps on restarting than going blank. I force shutdown, restart in safe mode, same thing happens, as soon as the windows logo loads, screen goes black and power is on and that is it, HD is not lit.

So I am waiting for someone to send me their windows Cd so I can maybe repair or reinstall windows xp. And I hope I do not loose the data.

In the past few days, laptop was working fine, I removed AVG, installed Avast, which immediately alerted me that I have an infected memory ? or infection in startup memory, decided to do a full deep scan, after 6hr only 7% was done, so I stopped it.

Someone told me to install CA antivirus, so I clicked to uninstall Avast and that was the last I saw of my desktop

    I could not find : C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiebbar.dll

Anyhow, unless there is a solution for my dead desktop, I think I will have to wait for the windows CD.

Your reported scan times have been indicative of serious problems on your PC and possibly hardware related issues as well.

The above steps could go very badly and/or be a wasted effort if your CD is not version specific to a laptop and to your model in particular. Laptops are very largely proprietary by nature.

I suggest extreme caution for such interventions and generally advise putting the suspect drive into an external USB enclosure (SATA ot ATA as applicable) so that nothing further can happen to that drive (preserving user files if that is possible). Then you need to acquire and use a proper model specific XP install disk using a new hard drive - lookup your specific model at your vendor's site, if applicable or seek a vendors help.

..... Are you saying that there is a windows xp for laptops and another one for desktops ???

I am going to try to try to scan the HD , putting it in a case and treat it as an external HD.

Once that is done, then I will coppy all 120GB to another external HD, then format the laptop HD, and install the win xp on it. But now that you said there are special versions of windows for laptops, I am wondering how to proceed.....

Will try as well, before the format, to put the windows CD in the D drive and get my laptop to boot from the CD, I hope this repairs the necessary files.

You really got me worried now with this ideas that Windows has different versions for laptop and Desktop !!!

I have an acer aspire 9412, 1gb ram......

Exactly! Notebooks have much of the same installation files but with many additional installed features particular to a given laptop model. This is not a problem if you were given an XP install disk or recovery disk which contain proprietary drivers and tools specific to your particular notebook.

Many recovery disks often will only do a complete clean install (wiping all previous content) back to the factory default when first shipped and it is often not possible to do a repair install. You need to read the support documents that came with your unit to know the consequences of any proposed actions. A repair install from a desktop version of XP may not have the desired effects or could make things worse. Talk to your vendor if in doubt.

If you do not have the necessary recovery (reinstall) media try the following link:

Note that each product has unique installation files (drivers, power management, etc.) particular to your given model.
