There is often not much separating many such tool options:
All products listed in our comparatives are already a selection of some very good anti-virus products.

    (Check out the 'comparatives' BUTTON)

Often, the main difference could the matter of a couple hours between vendors before certain detections and formal definition updates are accounted for. Accordingly, it is quite possible that the viruses encountered would have initially infected your PC under the watch of most other such tools (were they actually viruses or simply other malware). Sometimes, it may be helpful to try and assess the nature of the infection and how it was delivered (via email or Instant Messaging, for example). That could provide insights on 'safe computing' issues (example: using link research tools such as Linkscanner and/or SiteAdvisor) and generally inadvisable user behavior patterns (example: frequent use of P2P sites can create increased risk).

Most of us in the HELP community prefer to stay away from often bloated 'security suites' and to select best in class for each type of need. AVG8 has elements of both but has a lot to recommend for it (solid additional acquired components formerly known as AVG AS and Linkscanner). My current favorite, however, is Eset's NOD32 for numerous reasons such as its obscure presence, low resources footprint, scan performance, and solid behavioral detection capabilities.
