You appear to be running two security suites - very much not recommended. Suggest you uninstall the marginally effective 'PeoplePC' in 'Add/Remove Programs'.

Just so you know - you likely have acquired a backdoor/often password stealing capable Trojan that COULD create serious compromises and concerns (passwords, banking, identity theft, etc.).

PLEASE CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING ISSUES CAREFULLY: Your system has likely been compromised to a point where even cleaning it does not promise you a trustworthy machine. There is a lot of serious concern about the SDBOT infection family which your PC has presently encountered and its known updateable/installable capabilities whether currently in use or not - SEE:
(20K hits for inclusive search terms SDBOT, banking, password, and keylogger).

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?
How to report ID theft, fraud, drive-by installs, hijacking and malware? Security - dslreports.com

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall
    When should I re-format? How should I reinstall? Security - dslreports.com

If you do online banking or have passwords that would be a serious concern in the hands of others (identity theft or compromise of confidential information), then more serious action is likely advisable and potentially warranted (contacting and alerting bank(s), backup user files, do a clean re-install, and change all user passwords while off-line). More often than not they want your PC as a compromised zombie (a botnet/spambot member to do evil deeds) – but who is to know.

Nevertheless, initial and further cleaning may still be warranted to give you some renewed degree of control and then time to more fully consider your options. Let us know how you wish to proceed.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.
    • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
    • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the script.
    • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
    • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log.

Please also provide any new current observations.

If you wish to continue on, you may want to run the following scan:

    * Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, initially select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
    • It may also be advisable to run the longer ”Full Scan” in addition to the above scan especially if issues remain.
    • The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Make sure that everything is checked , and click Remove Selected.
    • When disinfection is completed , a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart(See Extra Note).
    • A run log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs TAB in MBAM.
    • Copy&Paste the entire report(s) in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
    • Please post any current revised observations.

    Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Thanks bro for the information! First, When I go into control panel and try to remove Defender Pro it tells me that its not installed. See, she (sister-in-law) ran the registery short-cut and deleted files in the registery that had something to do with the defender pro. Something that I told her never to do because registery is very important and when you start deleting files your are asking for trouble.

So, how do I get defender pro if I can't remove it through add/remove programs?

Also, I just ran Spy Bot and Destory and it finished with 13208 problems! Her computer is just showing a hour glass so, I hope it will not freeze up and finish cleaning up things. Boy, what a mess I guess

Also, I just ran Spy Bot and Destory and it finished with 13208 problems!
SpyBot will dutifully remove such problems but is failing to address what is generating the badware. SDFIX is likely what you need to address many of the infection and re-infection agents. I wouldn't want to trust a PC that has become that infected given the nature of the trojan infections potentially at play here.

So, how do I get defender pro if I can't remove it through add/remove programs?
Often, it may be necessary to do a fresh install to be in a position to properly uninstall the application in question.

Okay I ran that program "sdfix" and when it said "100%" completed all it did was put a blinking curser in the top left corner. I let that be for about 15-20 minutes and it never told me to press any key to reboot. Was I supped to let it blink longer?

Anyhow, I restarted the computer and here is a fresh hijacklog and report from SDFIX

The behavior exhibited by SDFIX is not typical and may represent interaction issues from lesser known tools PeoplePC and/or Defender Pro. Neither of those tools are on my recommended or wish list of favored tools.

Suggest you uninstall the above tools, and install and run a simple basic antivirus tool. Some good free Antivirus programs that are decent, including AVG and Avast!.
AVG: AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista
Avast: FREE avast! antivirus 4.x Home Edition, anti-spyware & anti-rootkit for Windows

    REBOOT and try SDFIX again.

Okay, when I get home tomorrow (Friday) morning I will retry it. Does her hijacklog look clean? Or is that trojan still there? Thanks again!

Does it still show People PC in the log file? I did go into the control panel and add/remove it.

Well, I found that Kernel exe (trojan) and everytime I delete it, it comes back. So, I am backing up just her pictures and some documents and I will do a reinstall. Here is the check tho, Dell didn't give her a recovery disk. It has a "paper" disk telling me that I will need to do a PC restore. I have to hit F11 to enter it so, I hope this will work. I have done serveral PC (restore) and this will be my first time using the feature "pc restore"

Here is a new HiJackLog can you look and see if there is still any type of Trojan or anything else? Thank you!

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Well, I found that Kernel exe (trojan) and everytime I delete it, it comes back.
There is a system file by that name that your PC will always protect and replace. Were you trying to delete the right file/folder?:

    C:\Program Files\kernel\kernel.exe

You are not running HijackThis (HJT) from a desired location. You really need to setup a dedicated folder for HJT items to avoid horrible clutter and/or potential lost backup issues.

It's best that the HijackThis tool NOT be located in its current location (particularly on your Desktop or in a TEMP folder). This way you can more easily undo any changes if something goes wrong.

Click here to download HJTInstall.exe (Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2).
    • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch HijackThis.

    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button.
      • It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
      • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
      • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply (when next requested) .
    • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
    • DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Read over the following directions. Ask if anything appears unclear to you.

    Clean out TEMPORARY FILES procedures:
To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

    CCleaner CCleaner - Download

    Install Options:
    • Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!
    • Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.

It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

Do not run CCleaner until requested later.

We will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Accordingly, it is probably a good idea to print out the following directions or copy them to a text file on your desktop using NOTEPAD. Read these instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about anything.

SELECT HijackThis FIX ITEMS: Scan with HijackThis and place a check next to these items:

    O2 - BHO: PeoplePal Toolbar - {A8FB8EB3-183B-4598-924D-86F0E5E37085} - C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\Toolbar\PPCToolbar.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: PeoplePal Toolbar - {A8FB8EB3-183B-4598-924D-86F0E5E37085} - C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\Toolbar\PPCToolbar.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BART STATION] C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\ISP6300\BIN\PPCOLink.exe -STATION
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVP] "C:\Program Files\Defender Pro\Defender Pro Internet Security 6.0\avp.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [KERNEL] C:\Program Files\kernel\kernel.exe

    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\progra~1\defend~1\defend~1.0\adialhk.dll c:\windows\system32\ldcore.dll
    O23 - Service: Defender Pro Internet Security (AVP) - Defender Pro - C:\Program Files\Defender Pro\Defender Pro Internet Security 6.0\avz.exe

Make sure that all browser windows and internet links are closed, even this one!
    CLICK ’FIX CHECKED’ with HijackThis.

HIDDEN FILES: To make sure you can see all hidden files, please follow the directions here

SAFEMODE: Boot into safe mode by tapping the F8 key at restart and choosing 'safe mode' menu option (explained here if needed).

Delete TEMPORARY FILES: Now, use CCleaner to hunt down the most common temporary file locations and the temporary file clutter contained therein (and of possible malware hiding places):

    Run CCleaner.

    FIRST-TIME USE:
Select the ”Options” BUTTON option (top LEFT), ”Advanced” BUTTON, and then UNCHECK the ”Only delete files in Windows Temp Folders older than 48 hours”. Set back to default afterwards.

Select the ”Cleaner” BUTTON option (top LEFT), if not already selected. Use the ”Windows” TAB up front by default.
    • Uncheck ”Cookies” option (advisable)
    • Optionally, Uncheck ”Recently Typed URLs” option (potentially still useful)
    • Click the ”Analyse” button.
    • Thereafter, click ”Run Cleaner” after you have reviewed what it proposes to clean.

***** Clean out the Recycle Bin for items removed below, ONLY once you have regained the full functional use of your PC.

Navigate to these files or folders using Windows Explorer (OR Start -> Search) and delete (if present):
    -- OR --
Use <Windows+F KEYS> and paste each FULL FILENAME Search PATH line (where available).
-NOTE-----> Windows KEY is located on the left between the <Ctrl and Alt KEYS>.

    DELETE FILES:

    c:\windows\system32\ldcore.dll

    DELETE FOLDERS:

    C:\Program Files\PeoplePC
    C:\Program Files\Defender Pro
    C:\Program Files\kernel

POST A REVISED HIJACKTHIS LOG for review:
    • Reboot.
    • Post a new HijackThis log.
    • Provide any feedback commentary as appropriate - how things are now behaving: any new or remaining apparent issues.
