Hi,

I am posting this for my daughter's laptop. It is a Dell Inspiron 700 running Windows XP that runs very sluggishly, constantly freezing up and needing to be rebooted. Even opening and closing files seems to take an inordiate amount of time.

So far, I have uninstalled some obviously unneeded programs and ran CCleaner in Safe Mode.

I also switched to AVG from McAfee. I thought McAfee mught be part of the problem, so I uninstalled it a few days ago and replaced it with the free version of AVG. AVG seems to be running fine, but I have been unable to run a full AVG scan because after a couple of hours, it seems like the scan has slowed to a standstill. The scan has never found a virus.

I also tried replacing Spy No More with another spyware program. I hsve tried Malwarebytes, Superantivirus, and counterspy, but can't get any of them to run a full scan because the scan goes on forever and eventually freezes. Before freezing, the scans showed only cookies.

Never mind - Hard Disk Crash! Luckily when I bought the system from Dell 3-1/2 years ago, I bought it with the 4-year warranty.
