    DL.exe(RESOLVED)

I think I have a virus problem. Last week whenever I logged in I was greeted by a DOS window titled DL.exe and an error message. I couldn't do certain things like get online or open 'msconfig'. Shortly after I couldn't even get into windows. After looking around the net I found many removal methods that didnt work so I just decided to format.

So I formatted the partition, did a clean install of XP, SP2, drivers etc, then I go to get something off my backup drive and DL.exe pops up again. The virus was hiding in my backups!

I have now formatted my system partition again. The infected drive is in another machine and I have run spybot s&d and AVG. Spybot only found a few tracking cookies but AVG found over 100 files infected with the Win32/Gaelicum.A virus, all of which are on the affected drive.

So can you tell from the log and what I have told you if the drive is safe to use?

    TIA!

    Welcome,

That log is clean but is out dated so...

Please download and install the latest version of HijackThis v2.0.2:Delete the old version you have

CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:TrendSecure | Download TrendMicro HijackThis

    1. Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    2. Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
    3. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
    4. Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
    5. Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
    6. Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
    7. Click on "Edit -> Select All" then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    8. Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply.
    9. Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Still clean, if you want you can scan the drive with this:

    * Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

    * Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and zLaunch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Full Scan", then click Scan.
    * The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
    * The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    * Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

    Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

While performing the mbam scan AVG found another Gaelicum.A infection.

    Thanks again

AVG 8 is not compatiable with spybot and finds things that are not there, mainly active x.

I suggest you uninstall spybot to see if that solves this. If MBAM doesn't find it, which is an excellent tool well I would look to uninstalling spybot

There are no infections being found anymore. I'm happy to use the drive now.

Do you know of any software that will take a screenshot of my partition as it is and save it to a few dvds. Then next time I have to format I can restore all the drivers and small apps in one go?
