Question Slow down, occasional pop up(RESOLVED)

Hi, I'm currently experiencing occasional slow downs on my PC and startign last night pop-ups, though, thanksully, not many of those, yet. I also got a warning from Spybot SD Resident about allowing a change to the registry to let a startup command run that I was not sure about, cmd /c "rmdir /s /q "C:\Program Files\GLF1B.tmp"" . I've run a full Spybot search, a full Ad-Aware and a full virus scan using McAfee. The Spybot fond a Trojan Win32.VB.Tr which I let it clean, nothing siginicant was found with the Ad-Aware and nothing with the virus scan.

Can you please check the uninstall and hijackthis log below to see if I've got it all?

    many thanks, once again!!

    Welcome

It appears to still be there, not sure what it is no reference on google, let's scan it:

Go here to learn how to show hidden files/folders:

Help: How to Show System Files

    Re-hide after we are done

    Go to next site:
    http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html
    On top you'll find 'Browse'
Click the browse button and browse to next file:

    C:\Program Files\GLF1B.tmp

    Click open.
Then click the 'Send' button next to it.
This will scan the file. Please be patient.
Once scanned, copy and paste the results as well in your next reply.

If that one is to busy here is another option:

    Online malware scan

    And

    Virus File Scanner

    Also...

Go here BitDefender and run an online scan with BitDefender (you will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan). When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan" and grab a coffee.

When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab. Click on "Click here to export scan". Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop. Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser. Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here. Post back and let us know what it found (post the log).

And post a new HJT log also..

Neal, many thanks for replying and looking at my issue, I did the first part you suggested below, Show hidden files, and then tried to find the file C:\Program Files\GLF1B.tmp, but still it doesn't appear! I'll run the scan later, I started it but it's going to run a while!

    Cheers
    Mark

Run hijackthis and click on "scan system only" button and put checks next to these:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank

    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [GLF1B.tmp] cmd /c "rmdir /s /q "C:\Program Files\GLF1B.tmp""

    O16 - DPF: {020f6116-407b-11d3-a3bb-00c04fa32518} -
    O16 - DPF: {093501ce-d290-11d3-a3d6-00c04fa32518} -

Please close ALL browser windows (including this one).

Everything closed out but hijackthis and click on "fix checked"

To clean your temp folder, recycle bin, etc..please download this free tool:

    CCleaner

Don't install any Toolbars, or other programs, should it ask you!Just uncheck the option of installing the Yahoo toolbar.
It will put a shortcut on your Desktop.

    Uncheck cookies

    Before first use:
    Select Options then Advanced.
UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

Click on CCleaner to start it. Then click "Run Cleaner", just use the windows tab up front by default.

    Then Reboot (Exit)

Come back and tell me what is going on now plus a new hijackthis log. Thanks.

Neal, many many thanks for your help, my machine seems to be working OK again. I've read the McAfee stuff, but for now will stay with it, but certainly bear it in mind should further slowdowns hit me.

I tried to do the donation thing but it seems to be broken ?

    Once again, many thanks.

    Cheers

To reduce the re-infection potential for malware and protect yourself against spyware, here are a few helpful suggestions:

    2. Run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep its definitions up-to-date. If you are thinking about switching, there are a some good free Antivirus programs that are decent, including Avira and Avast and PCTools.
    AVIRA: http://www.free-av.com/]Avira

AVAST: FREE avast! antivirus 4.x Home Edition, anti-spyware & anti-rootkit for Windows

PCTOOLS: PC Tools AntiVirus - Free Anti-Virus Download

    3. In addtion to using SpyBot S&D consider using another free malware scanning/removal program:
Windows Defender: Windows Defender - Spyware Protection for Free

    4. Consider using a free firewall if you are not already using one. Some good free ones are:
Kerio: Free Firewall Download - Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall

    Comodo:Comodo Free Firewall Software Download

    5. Consider using an alternate free browser for general web surfing but you must use IE for windows update.
    Mozilla Firefox: www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

    6. Consider increasing your browser security by using Spyware Blaster:
SpywareBlaster will increase browser protection by blocking Thousands of known malware sites by adding them to IE's restricted sites zone. Download it here:

    SpywareBlaster

If you use SpywareBlaster, you can also use a customblocklist to add even more entries into IE restricted sites zone. Go to this site for the current list and how to use instructions: CJB.NET

IE-SPYAD is similar in that it adds thousands more known malware sites to IE's restricted zone. Download it here:

    Block access to Untrustworthy Sites

You can prevent your computer from visiting a myriad of untrustworthy sites and ad-servers by installing a customised hosts file. One of the best available is the: MVPS Hosts File. Simply follow the instructions to install the file in the correct location. This will not only make surfing safer but will improve website load times and block popups from many of the large ad-servers.

*Remember just like your primary anti-virus software, it is important to keep all of these programs up-to-date and use them on a regular basis. It's Free
