Hello,
This is a post from my wife’s laptop (win xp home – ie7 w/ fully updated sp3), she has some spyware on here that I think some things might still be hanging around, there were a group of kids using her laptop on Sunday (youtube, myspace, webkinz and a few kids games like insaneaquarium, my little pony etc) and somehow one of them must have clicked something they shouldn’t have because Monday morning she said things were nuts when she just went to check her yahoo email (popups spyware warnings to click and download this or that etc) she didn't click those she said but just said here fix it to me ughhh.
So far here is what I have done…and I have been at this for literally a day and a half of letting scans run, updating everything under the sun etc, just not 100% sure if it is all gone as I do still get these random avg warnings of a "trojan horse Vundo.J" virus that once i delete reboot and use the system i still get the same warnings (even after clearing temp internet files folder where it is saying it was stored in). And it appears the net itself (I am on comcast with rj45 line direct into laptop) but on this machine the net runs SOOO slow (not normal) so I just have a feeling something else is maybe still in here deeper or something.
Upgraded her avg 7 to the newest avg 8.0.100 updated definitions ran full scan
Installed, updated definitions ran adaware 7.0.2.7 full scan
Installed, updated definitions ran spybot 1.5.2.20 default scan
Installed, updated definitions ran superantispyware (free edition) full scan
I ran these programs one at a time, the first avg scan found about a dozen things and required a reboot, the spyware scans also found things that appeared to fix/delete at the end of the scans.
Upon rebooting I got a weird message about a sockins32.dll module not being found, then I opened a browser and it was better than before (no popups) but was running at a snails pace vs. normal stalling out even on basic pages. I re-ran the programs (a few more times) finding and deleting more things - so things are not totally fixed yet…
I downloaded hijack this and below is the log, I am hoping it will help figure out what is going on and hope I supplied all the needed info, another few hrs today of messing with this and its almost 2am as I post this after hrs of messing with it again today ughhh.
