    Reformatting Probelm

    Hello i have a probelm when i try to reformat... it comes up with a blue screen saying,
    STOP: <0000218 {Registry file failure}
    the registry cannot load the hive (file):
    \systemRoot\system32\config\SECURITY
    or its log or alternate.
    It is corrupt, absent, or not writeable

    how can i fix this probelm?

    One of the very first things to try is booting using the F8 Key as if to boot in SAFE MODE but select 'Last known good configuration'.

    Next, trying to select an earlier 'restore point' might work but is often not even DIRECTLY available after a error like that. The inability to select a previous 'restore point' is often a sign of serious trouble and complex issues which are often not easily fixable, if at all:

    Your best option may be to try a system restore point (if available) to a date before any known problems or before you started performing any recent fixes:

    Click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

    Check Restore my computer to an earlier date> Click Next.

    Choose the date before you performed any recent fixes and click Next and Next again.

    REBOOT.
