    Search @ Hand Annoying

My computer seems to have been Hijacked by Search@Hand. How do I kill it? It is very annoying and redirects all of my google search clicks.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from this site:
    http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure ”Run fixit” is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads, post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log with any current observations in the forum please.

    POSSIBLE ERROR MSG:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\AUTOEXEC.NT not there

You are missing a file which is preventing you from running the wareoutfix tool.

Go to the link below and select your operating system and click the link on that site and follow instructions for obtaining the missing file and try the wareoutfix tool again please.

Ok, I can see that some things were fixed and they are similar to the info I've seen on other forum posts. I just wanted to ask to make sure that this stuff was ok to clear, since the data was slightly different. I don't know if the problem will return though.

Thanks for your help. If it comes back, I will ask about this problem again. I think it's pretty much gone though.

Essentially, your problem was NameServer entries from the Ukraine (018 entries). Such lookup tables from such sources can then resolve requests for 'Webpage A' to be any malware-based URL that these scumlords choose.

Do you know if the following file is legitimate (its purpose is known to you)?:

    C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\00766461b 1b00d8469999536d8f8d6e4\update\update.exe

    If in doubt,
    Submit files to VirusTotal

    Go to http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html
Copy each line item into the white textbox:
    • > [Full Path]\Suspect File<
    Click Send.
Please post the results of each scan to this thread.

If VirusTotal's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:
    http://virusscan.jotti.org

I have no more problems with that piece of malwre, thanks.
This file no longer exists though,
    C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\00766461b 1b00d8469999536d8f8d6e4\update\update.exe
I am suspicious about the C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\ folder though. Is that a Windows standard?

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
    C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution
I had never before seen such an entry in a HijackThis LOG. Seems to be legit and used to store certain windows updates:

    http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversio...hp/t40731.html
    http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&q=...G=Search&meta=

The file in question may actually be HIDDEN (as is common for system related files).
