Hi expert friends!

For the past two days, my computer tells me that Windows Defender has identified some virus/Trojan Horse called Win32/GenericA in my computer. I have removed it as per instructions yesterday, but it seems to have re-appeared today -- I have also removed it today. Can this be a potential (serious) problems and, if so, could you please tell me how to remove it safely and -- more importantly -- permanently?

* Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from HERE or HERE

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

* Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and zLaunch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
* The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
* The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
* Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.


Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

Spybot S&D (Teatimer)

1. Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
2. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
3. On the left hand side, Click on Tools
4. Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
5. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
6. Restart your computer.

When disabled, please download ResetTeaTimer.bat
Double-click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer. This is done so it can be re-enabled without problems after cleaning.

Thank you Neal. A few questions: When you say 'When disabled', what exactly do you mean? And by 'all entries set by TeaTimer', you mean all entries identified by that software once it has finished its test of the system? And, lastly, I should double click... what? lol. Sorry if the questions seem of the basic variety, but when it comes to computers, my less than extensive knowledge cannot be trusted. :-D

When teatimer is disabled is what is meant by disabled

And by 'all entries set by TeaTimer', you mean all entries identified by that software once it has finished its test of the system?

The .bat will remove all things teatimer has done to protect your system and when it is re-enabled it will restore those items of protection just like it was before. Some folks have been having problems with teatimer being re-enabled if old entries are not deleted. The .bat fixes that problem.

And, lastly, I should double click... what? lol.

Double-click ResetTeaTimer.bat after it is downloaded and teatimer is disabled and after your system is clean.

Neal:

I have executed the above instructions, except that I couldn't find any prompts that I could have OKd

I then (probably mistakenly) clicked on the Archive Log icon because I didn't want to lose the list generated after I unchecked the 'Resident TeaTimer'. This had the unexpected effect of clearing the list so there is now a blank box where the info used to be...

I used the Archive Log (I figured I would at least get SOME KIND of prompt after clicking on the Archive Log icon, but was mistaken) after trying to download the ResetTeaTimer.bat file and getting the following boxed message:

C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe

Unsupported version

So... I am assuming that the download failed.

Any other suggestions?
