I've been getting really annoying pop-ups - installed a pop-up blocker which seemed to work but now on the task bar (on the right) there is a red circle icon with a white 'X' that keeps popping up stating:

"Your computer is infected! Windows has detected a spyware infection! It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to pervent data loss. Wondows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you. Click here to protect your computer from spyware!"

(prevent sp wrong like that??) When I click on it nothing happens.

You don't have any service packs, microsoft security updates either.

Before we can help you, you must get Service Pack 1a, do not get Service Pack 2 on an infected computer. After you get the Service pack 1a post a new hijackthis log and we will begin removal of the infection. Thanks.

Download SDFIX and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and choose Install to extract it to its own folder on the Desktop. Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
• Choose your usual account.

• In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
• Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
• Type Y to begin the script.
• It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
• Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
• Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
• When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
• Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

Go here BitDefender and run an online scan with BitDefender (you will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan). When the ActiveX Control has loaded, click on "Click here to scan" and grab a coffee.

When BitDefender completes the scan, select the "Detected Problems" tab. Click on "Click here to export scan". Save the file as an HTML to your Desktop. Then click on the saved file and allow it to open with your browser. Go to Edit - Select All then copy/paste that log back here. Post back and let us know what it found (post the log).

And post a new HJT log also..
