Re: massive problem on other computer!!

hey i clicked start>run>cleanmgr and it just started cleaning it... it did not give me any options such as more options tab. it also takes a while to scan it and i do not think it scans it properly. it stays on scanning: compress old files for ages...for about 15-20mins and then closes itself. is this what is supposed to happen because it seems odd.

I am sorry for the really late reply....the internet provider let me down again!

    thank you

you can't do a system restore with ATF cleaner, that is to clean old useless temp files off your computer.

I use ATF cleaner all the time and I check everything but cookies and passwords cause I don't like logging back in to forums. You do not need to donate to use AFT.

When you first type cleanmgr and hit ok it starts checking on how much space it can clean up for you, it is not actually removeing anything yet, let it finish.

When finnished it should have two tabs, "Disk Cleanup" and "More Options"

Do you see the "More Options" tab now?

    hey,

cleanmgr does not pass the stage i was explaining before. its been on that bit since 22.07pm - it is now 22.40. i do not think it works but i think i will use the atf cleaner and do the rest of the things you said and then will get back to you

hey i done as you said....the only problems that occur are:

as i switch the computer on it does not load up....it is just a black screen with the mouse arrow.

i also still have avg randomly coming up with threats even though i haven't connected that computer to the internet since the problems occured.

    cheers!

If it does not load up as you say how does AVG alert you?

You had a ton of trojans on this machine and apparently some major file corruption has taken place.

Maybe it is time to throw in the towel(REFORMAT) on this one.

If it does not load up how can you run any scans?

hey, the computer doesnt load itself up at first and arrives at a black screen as i explaioned before. but then i restart it manually (by pressing the reset button) and it loads up fine after that. i just wasnt sure if this was a major problem or not.

as for AVG, it pops up with a 'threat detected' window stating it found a trojan in:

    c:\system volume information\_restore

i press heal and it heals it successfully.

Save 20% on AVG Internet Security 2012 Suite!
Stuff in system restore should be able to be flushed as a last step.

    1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
    • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
    • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

    2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

    Files to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\cbxvtrr.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\A6F0F714918B7570.job

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

    3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
    • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
    • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
    • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
    • Click Done
    • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
    • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
    4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
    • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
    • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
    • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
    • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
    5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Add/Reply

I need to see a new combofix log please, just follow instructions from when you did it before.
